Be careful and don't get hypothermia. I'd wear some dry suit material to stay warm. Deep water in the channels is where thet go why it gets super cold. Used to be Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass.

wear a wetsuit or something to keep you warm. Do NOT wear waders. If you fall out in deep water, they will fill up and drown you.

With all due respect, Lee Wulff of fly tying fame jumped off a bridge wearing waders year ago, just to disprove that old fisherman's tale. As long as you are in the water, water filled waders are neutrally buoyant. I have worn all three things mentioned, extensively. Wetsuits get cold and clammy in low humidity/windy conditions [NORTHER] if they have a fabric exterior shell that gets wet, drysuits are plenty warm and safe but are binding around the neck and a real pain if you must relieve yourself and waders are made for..... well............ wading! Cool

Take your pick................................ Cool

basically, yaking almost done for the season unless you have the gear to keep one nice and warm..
thanks for reminding me about hypothermia.. with wind and a little moisture it will happen very quickly.. might still take yaks if weather is great but no telling

I call BULL!!!!!!!!!!!

I wear waders all the time in the colder months. You wear a belt around them!!! I have fell out once with waders on and I just wet above the belt and they did NOT fill up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could swim fine & get back into my yak.

I like the breathable stocking foot waders and I dress in layers under them according to the temps.

As far as the tactics & places.... it depends on the weather & water.

If it is cool and has been for a while or coold & overcast, I like mud bottoms and I really like marshes. The mud holds heat longer than sand bottoms and therefore will hold fish when its cold. If it cool with bright sunny days and there is plenty of water, I like the flats because they warm up really quickly on a sunny day. If it is a deep freeze, go find the deep holes as mentioned.

I tend to slow it down in the winter. I still fish tops & plastics but usually in darker colors & slower.

the big fish come out at night in the winter. yack the humble area on cold, nasty nights when no one else is brave enough to fish. hypothermia is for the casual fisherman and babies.

If you are serious about doing this in really nasty weather, a drysuit is the ticket. If you buy one, don't cut corners. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. I have sailed my cat single handed in 40 degree water and 25-40 mph winds and turned over Shocked! All I had on under the drysuit was polypro undies and a layer of polarfleece.......................................I was snug, warm and DRY!!!! Cool

I fish when its so cold no one else will go but i wait for the winds to lay. It gets mighty frosty zipping across the bay at 30 mph. But the rewards are pretty good. Very Happy

Maybe you should ask some of the people that have been drowned by their waders whether it was bull or not. It has happened in the past. Not just saying it for fun.

Can you give me some names????? Seriously... give me an example. RUMORS!!!!

If someone drowned from their waders filling up, they didn't have them belted. Don't blame the waders when someone doesn't use them correctly.

Not to give you a ration but all too often people give advice from the rumor mill without any first hand knowledge. As an avid winter kayak angler for many years now, I have yet to see anyone "fill up" their waders when they were belted as they are supposed to be. Even if they fill up...so what??? In water, water weight is neutral!!!! You don't sink from water weight in your waders!!!! They may catch current but they aren't going to sink you. And you can always swim out of them if you don't have a belt on.

Sorry but you have been tricked by the internet. all myth!!!!
