My buddy PT over at Team Oso made this one. Works great & easy to make.
Parts list:
1-4" PVC coupler
1-4"x2" PVC reducer bushing
1-4" piece of 2" sch 40 PVC pipe
1-2" sch 40 PVC 45 degree ell
1-2"x1" PVC reducer bushing
1-1" PVC tee
2-1" PVC caps
1-18" piece of 1" sch 40 PVC pipe
1-32" piece of 1" sch 40 PVC pipe
4-12 awg loop terminals
2-battery clips
1-1409 aircraft landing light
1-roll electric tape
1-tube silicone
12-feet 12awg wire
I used 2 pieces of 12awg wire (free its what I had on hand). I taped the two together.
Strip your wires and crimp on two of the loop terminals and attach to the light. Positive and negative orientation doesnt matter.
Cover all the metal components of the light with a liberal amount of silicone.
Next glue the 2"x4" reducer bushing into the 4" coupling. This will make the housing for your light.
Glue the small piece of 2"pipe into the reducer bushing and the 2" 45 ell onto that. I applied more silicone to the back of the light and to the interior of the housing
Pull the wires through the housing and seat the light into the bed of silicone. (This worked out really nicely)
The next step is to glue the 2"x1" reducer bushing into the ell, but before I did that, I coiled some extra wire into the housing. This is to give you some extra wire if you need to change the bulb.
Next I glued an 18" piece of 1" pvc into the ell. I also made my handle with the 1" tee, and a 8" piece of 1" pvc and cap.
I made this next piece 32" long and seems to be just about right.
Next drill a 3/8" hole in a 1"cap to pass the wires through. I apllied some silicone to the inside of the cap to seal the hole and glued it on
I then crimped on two terminal loops and attached them to the battery clamps.
I ran an additional bead of silicone around the perimeter of the bulb.
The finished product. Let me tell you that sucker is BRIGHT! I'm a little worried about battery life.
Easy and fun project. Total price $25. I'll let ya'll know how it works out
Titelines,

With the right battery and it will take some looking, you can get one to last 10-12 hours and it will fit in a backpack.

I built one of these, per this spec and it's pretty darn bright. Thanks Bluffer for posting the plans.
Some time back on Ebay I found this ultra-bright LED assembly that is supposed to be the brightest currently available. It draws 250 ma @ 12v and has all the driver circuitry built in.
It does make a fair amount of light and is about 3x brighter than most high-end LED flashlights. I'm considering finding a way to seal this up and make a mini flounder light out of it, complete with self-contained batteries (10 AA rechargeable batteries, or 8 AA alkalines). I want to make a quick light a can use to check out an area without lugging the big battery around. Has anyone else attempted to make an LED based flounder light? |

I think Im gonna make one with a minor mod, I am gonna use a threaded 4" coupler and a 4"-2" threaded reducer and put some teflon tape on it. This will be just fine for water tight and if/when a bulb change is requited it will be a lot easier to get the old one out being able to work from both sides. What do yall think? _________________ V/R,

Nice work there, Bluffer & PT.
cbroutfitters - instead of the threaded coupling, consider what I did. Find a sewer coupler that fits the bulb. It's water-tight and allows for quick change of the bulb with a screwdriver.
Below are some pictures, and I have more detailed instructions at:

Try using underground sprinkler wire. Home Depot has it in rolls. Cheap and water proof, very tough stuff too havent had any probs in years of use. Just my 2 cents |
