I seem to remember a ways back that there was some info regarding the do's and dont's of using dry ice in the cooler to supplement regular ice. I am going broke on long trips trying to keep ice in the cooler and have had to leave early more than once to get fish home (back to SA) in good shape. Any thoughts on dry ice (where to get it in SA and how best to use it) would be appreciated.
Thanks. _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

Keep dry ice wrapped in paper and do not put milk in the same cooler as the dry ice it will spoil. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

| Whatever you do, take a goretex/thinsulate glove, a heavy one, to handle the dry ice, both when you buy it and when you handle it on the beach and back. Been there, done that and got the freezer burns to show for it. Second, the dry ice, as it melts goes straight from solid to gas so don't put it where you live and breathe. We are going to be carrying a 150 qt MaxCold chest down with quite a few chunks of dry ice to help store our H2O ice. We will use that to supply two or three 48 qt maxcold chests where our food and catches will be stored. We will store the 150 qt. in the travel trailer while motoring down the road, and while motoring down the beach, or just while being on the beach in camp in front of the trailer while camped. We will set up a sun shade to place that chest under when we are actually using the trailer to cook meals or sleep in it. The CO2 will displace the oxygen and we don't want to be there when it is. It's kind of like carbon monoxide, you just won't wake up, so keep it away from living quarters. Take care, bro - hope to see you soon - 'bout a month from now. |

Hey everyone, thanks for the info. I really appreciate it as I am going freakin' broke on ice during long trips and I hate like hell having to leave a good spot to get some more and worrying about the state of the fish I have caught. Later. _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |
