With all the lousy conditions and near $4 gas we haven't gone down at all this year since its 300 miles from out house to the 20MM. But, we took some time off and headed down. Kids had a great time playing on the beach and with virtually no traffic during the week it was great. Had one of those memory makers with a Pelican that decided to hang out with us and eat my throwaway fish. Kids loved feeding it.
But, on to the fishing. I only caught four whiting, which was in itself a shock. But, there was plenty of catching. Three big stingers, four Gaffs, a bunch of small croaker, some skips, and 19 mangroves of which I kept 12. They were yummy.
Just curious but is there a wreck near the twenty? Also, what happened to the Breakaway shop? No pics either. Will be heading down in Oct. with some buds for the runs and hopefully some pomps. Cannot wait. |

Awesome! The magic of being on PINS with the family is that dad and the kids can have so much fun. Memory makers as you say.
My 7 y/o daugher caught her first 'big' fish on Monday; a 22" ladyfish off the dock in the channels. Brought it in by herself (screaming the whole time) and didn't dunk daddy's new Revo. _________________ Jeff

To my knowledge, there is no wreck near the 20. But, the area from the 18 to the 21 or so has always been productive because it is where the flat beach turns into the high banks. An old shark fisherman named "Hip" once told me that back in the old days, that was one of the best places to fish. There is actually supposed to be a yellow pipe sticking up somewhere back in the dunes that marks the magic spot but I have never seen it. I think Skipper tried to explain where it was to me once but I still didn't see it. Anyhow, with that amount of Mangroves, I would think there has to be some kind of really good structure. Mabey the currents from the last storm uncovered something and you happened to stop right on it. Would have been a good time to get a GPS mark. Thanks for the report.

Uncle D, are you talking about the wreck just past Yarboroug? I have seen that one a few times at extremely low tide in the winter time when a good northwest wind will blow the tide out super low. From what I remember, it is some type of huge buoy buried in the wade gut between the 15 and the 16. Man if there is really another wreck north of the high banks I would sure love to see it. Alot of people don't realize that a buoy can be awesome structure. We have caught tons of fish on the Miss Piggy in the high 40's back in the day.

It was clearly visible during this year's Big Shell Cleanup. Not much to it though the feds say it is 1800's era according to Billy. |

| I also caught a Bonnet head on a fish bites, which everything was caught on. There had to be a lot more snapper there as I have never gone through so many fish bites. Usually, I can catch a lot of whiting on one of them but these mangroves and their teeth were just tearing them up. |
