Headed out at dark thirty and got to my fishing spot with the earliest of eastern light. Dead calm, full moon still hanging in the sky and absolutely no sign of any feeding activity going on. No problem...I was going to get my line wet regardless.
Loaded up my yak and took off for my destination, throwing top waters here and there to see if I could get anything to hit. No luck until after the
sun hit the horizon and then in the next hour, I landed three Specks. 24, 20 and 17 inches in that order and then the bite died. Kept at it for a couple of more hours with only a rat red to show for it. That's not exactly true....I did catch a fish that I had not seen in that part of the bay...a whiting. Must have been lost.
Paddled back in and loaded up and made a move to another fishing spot.
Launched again and soon found myself playing in a school or undersized reds. Quickly caught about 10 fish between 16 and 18 inches before they headed off to safer water. Moved on and again found a school of undersized fish and caught 7 or 8 before I tied into a decent red...24 inches. The bite died again and by now it was near 2:30 so I headed for the truck and home.
My one red....again
Unusual event - Longrod catches more than one trout
Two 24 inch fish
