It's gone. We went there to get some crabs to boil and it was razed flat. Apparently another marina coming. They had construction trailers and a couple RVs.
Susie and I always enjoyed visiting with the woman that sold fish and crabs there. Hopefully with Packery they got a boatload of money for the place. I sure hope so, with fuel prices like they are, they had to be hurting making a living fishing.
Looks like I will be dusting off my crab nets, unless there are other crab options. The only other nearby place that I know of is the Crab Store, but not for me.
The last few times I crabbed, I did it at the Mud Bridge and at the RR bridge just south of SPID in Oso. The RR bridge is death defying, and Mud bridge produced mostly undersized crabs. I've never tried Dimmet for crabs. I need to check out the OSO turnarounds too.
Any Ideas?

Yes, Cindy and Ray sold the place for a good sum of money. Cindy was really great to deal with and always was excited to see you and never in a bad mood.
We used to bring Poppy, our dog, out there to see Aspen, their lab. I don't know where they are now. I wish I'd known and gotten to say so long to them. I found out about it one day when I called wanting to see if they had any crabs in and found that the phone was no longer in service. |

| A friend from work showed me a brochure of a new marina they were thinking of building there. He got the brochure from the boat show during buc days. If its the same one its supposed to be pretty fancy with vertical boat storage racks. Anyone else heard of this? |

| I talked to the "owners" at the International Boat Show and they said they were waiting on all the permits ( EPA, Coprs of Engineers, etc. ) to be approved. They made it sound like a big time operation with an large dry rack storage like Cove Harbor. A full blown marina. Who knows when that will really start if the city gets involved it probably never get off the ground. |

I'm sure that the investors considered the thousands of N.A.S and CCAD employees who cause a huge traffic jam in that area every morning. The Boat Hole Marina is off the same road as N.A.S? I know it is very congested on N.A.S drive.....oops.
Change and growth is here, and Corpus is growing for sure, just a little slower than other places. My kids talk about how Corpus needs to grow and how it is "behind" the other major cities.. Growth means strip malls, condos and the wealthy buying up all of the earth we treasure around here . . . (They don't want to hear that).
The big metal barn in Rockport at Cove Harbor? The one that that has hundreds of boats stacked into it, and on top of each other? I'll keep my mouth shut on this one. Good Luck to the new owners and good for the previous owners. _________________ Grind

| I'm glad to hear that Tyler. When I was too sick to fish, we got drum there for $2 a pound and Cindy would scale them for us. She always had a smile on her face. Hopefully they will surface somewhere nearby with a bright financial future. |

| Bayslammer, it sounds like you have some very smart kids. At least they are thinking about growth on a comparative basis whereas many people see it as either all good or all bad. With time, they'll be very happy with the concept that being "behind" can actually be "ahead" in terms of quality of life. For you and me, the question isn't so much of whether a stacked boat barn is all good or all bad, but where those boats will frequent when not in the barn. Strong businesses and a strong economy beg attention from services that support a high quality of life. If it houses offshore boats that go out of the Packery, ones that follow the channels from the marina to the Packery, then all is likely well. If it houses lots flats boats that cut across all of the water near the boat hole before heading south to burn more flats, then it isn't good. We're all better off to have young folks like yours, ones that start thinking about it early on - because sooner or later, we're all going to have to give more boats lots of thoughts. Really, your kids sound very thoughtful. |

Thank You.... I agree. The kids want a waterpark, amusement park and all the same stores the malls in Houston have. I tell them "Where I grew up there was nothing but farms, ranches and a big lake". The nearest mall was an hour away. I thought it was great, and still do. How times have changed _________________ Grind |

I grew up in southwest Florida, near Naples. I hope the folks in and around Corpus realize just what a treasure this place really is. I've heard lots of complaints about how slow the growth is and how far behind the times we are in comparison to places like Houston. I can tell you now it's not going to last forever. Areas like the 10,000 islands north to Marco, into Naples and to Bonita were much the same as it is here right now, but only 35 years ago. Now the beaches are wall to wall condominiums and the natural beauty and the majority of the bounty it held is gone with it. I came here to be here and I appreciate it for what is is now. Anyway, I hope the folks from the Boat Hole are doing well and are happy with their move. Sorry for the rant, but I like the place pretty much the way it is and I cringe when I think of the growth to come.

Amen Bro. No worries...I don't think our beaches and Bays will look anything like Florida or California for a while _________________ Grind |

I talked to the owners as well, one day on the jetties. If this thing gets all of the permits it will be a first class operation.
You just call ahead and they will put your boat in the water and have it all gassed up and ready.
When you come in from fishing just unload what you want and they will wash the boat and motor and put it away until next time...What could be better than not having to clean up after a fun day fishing...Adios
