So is this new bar going to keep the pier, and allow people
to fish off of it? Or are they going to destroy the pier?
Does anyone have some accurate information on when it
will open up again? Sad Sad Sad Sad

It seems work has really slowed down at the new restaurant being built in the former pierhouse of the oso pier. The pier itself is in really crappy condition, and has been pretty bad for a decade or so. For a while the construction was going quite fast, but the last couple months it really seems to have slowed quite a bit. The "Islander Bar/Grill" formerly "County-Line" has gone under.

Normal restaurants just don't make it in that area. Maybe a cafeteria-style restaurant could make it and give TAMUCC's Aramark contracted food services a run for their money. They _really_ need competition as Aramark has some of the highest prices for the lowest quality food around. Once they were awarded an exclusive food contract for all of TAMUCC, their quality went to total sh** and the students are getting screwed. Those of us working there also have few options as there really isn't anything close to campus.

Aramark does suck!!!
They are in the bluff schools and it's the worst food on the planet.
Damn big money trying to make a buck off hungry students aint' the way our educational systems should be run.

You can always tell an institution that isn't yet locked into an exclusive contract with Aramark. The quality and level of service is a _lot_ better. I was doing some training in San Antonio a couple of years ago at a center that actually had good Aramark food at good prices. I was shocked. Its a shame Aramark does this sort of thing and changes their level of service once they get a customer over a barrel in contract.

If I were to negotiate any sort of contract with Aramark, I'd make sure to include a killswitch clause based on a customer satisfaction survey performed by a agreed-upon survey company. Why TAMUCC didn't do this is beyond me.

when i was a kid I would ride my bike to the pier and fish. Some good times. The funniest story I have was when I guy walked up to us one night asked if we had any keepers we wanted to sale. I got $50 bucks for a drum and a trout. Then watched this guy rub the fish all over his shirt and pants. I thought look at this crazy SOB then realized someone must have told the wife he was going fishing Laughing . Worst story was had to get a tetnis sho after cutting my foot on a nail. Its a shame to see it go but it was falling apart.
