The wife and I went out for a nice little Sunday afternoon fishing trip yesturday. We chose to fish at BHP. I've fished Bob Hall many times before and was looking forward nice day on the pier. After getting some bait and refreshments, we hit the pier. Well the pier was packed and I did meet some fine people while walking out to the T Head. This is were the problems began. After getting out there I found that it was totally taken up by a "couple" of people who were camping out. Well, I thought there was a fishing rod limit out on the pier?? Not worrying to much I simply turned around and found a nice little spot and started to fish. Well.... not 5 mins after I cast out do I find that a couple of A holes have climbed the tower out there and did some freakin' flips and boom, were in the water. NOT 20 FEET FROM MY LINE! Next they swam 3 to 4 feet from were my lines entered the water!! They swam all the way down the pier, not worrying about any of the people fishing. This is when a nice couple that I had been talking to simply said that they couldn't believe that they could of done that and left. Well, I stuck it out. I didn't pay $60 in gas, $20 in shrimp, another $30 something in food and snacks, and then a pier fee of $9 for the wive, poles and I, to just up and leave. Well the fishing wasn't that good but it was a lovely day. Then the straw that broke the camels back finally happened. One of those couple of fishermen who were taking up the entire T head, just pulled out his private and pissed of the freakin' pier!!! Right in front of my wife, a family of 6, "with 4 little girls, and everyone else on the pier. That was it. I started packing up. Before we got all packed up they had alreadly done it again! Beer in one hand something even smaller in the other. I walked off the pier and don't know if Ill ever go back. Sorry for the rant, but DAMN! Come on. _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

That sucks man. I believe that I would have called the law before I left and then waited on them, even though it might be a long wait! This type of thing is one of the MANY reasons that it's good to have the #'s of the state and local police, park police [when needed] and fish and wildlife officers. One of them will more than likely show. People who do this kind of thing are one of the many reasons that I bought a boat!!!!!!! _________________ Dave

I think i saw a phone number along side of pier toward the entrance of pier.Posted number for any problems, was what i think i saw.Probably need more of those sighs put up for future reference. When i went i did see a tarp up at the t from the night before but there wasnt that many people out there that day.Still no excuse there has to be some type of enforcement out there. Does any one know the number to management out there? PLEASE POST _________________ ''ONE LAST CAST''

Don't let those kinds of people affect your life. I deal with them 24/7. Some people are not born with any moral compass. If you try to understand thier thinking process, it will overwelm you. Use them as an example of what not to do. _________________ seasonalsalt |

When it comes to pier fishing I learned real quick to do on to others as they do on to you. Translation, fish where ever you want on a pier, just throw your line and place your rod down and step back. If I throw over someone, tuff crap. If you don't fish this way then people like you encountered will run over you and run you off the pier just like they did. People like that know what they are doing. Also I carry any time I fish on a pier. I'm tired of retards like that getting away with everything and nobody doing anything about it. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

That's why I don't fish the piers. Too many inconsiderate folks hogging up too much space, leaving dead fish all over the deck etc.
I am glad you folks that enjoy fishing the pier do so in spite of that.
I wish they would do more enforcement of pier rules to keep those types from ruining it for everyone else.
I fish the surf instead to avoid those hassles. You still get some inconsiderate folks parking next to you but you can always find a spot out of the way especially if you have a four wheel drive vehicle. |

two words..... bluff rats.
they have been there as long as that pier has, and there have always been a few of them that think they own the end of it.
the pier management probably won't do anything about it. You've got a couple kids working in the snack bar that could care less if you have a good time or not.
call the sheriff's department next time. |

| thats too bad.. I really like fishing bob hall but I cant stand crap like that.. I guess thats why I havnt been there in years.. Id rather kayak a bait out 500 yards from the beach then try to get a line out from the end of the T. Everytime I go out there its the same thing .. 2 guys at the end with 30 poles stretched accross the end.. I am guessing people just leave them there with 2 guys on duty to assure nobody else gets to do any fishing from there. |

Bluff Rats!! I resemble that remark
Sorry you had a bad experience at BHP. You had your heart in the right place bringing the family down for some fishing. It sucks how a couple of bad seeds who go unchecked can ruin the day. I guess it's a sign of the times, no matter what type activity or where your at , bad manners and lack of respect are common place nowdays. It's getting out of hand .
I took my wife and three year old daughter to Clems pier last night after we ate dinner on the Island. My daughter wanted to see what a Piggy Perch looked like since she always hears me talk about them. We walked around on the pier for a while and I witnessed a couple of Asian gentlemen fillet an undersize trout as soon as it was caught, and hog a whole section of pier. They looked like they were working and not recreational fishing. On a positive note... The man working the counter at Clems was a really nice and helpful . _________________ Grind |

I am sending your responses on to Blake Pettis whom I will request to pass along to the commissioners.
There is hope with the fee increase that we may be able to at least get a part time park ranger. I do not believe it would take much as long as ranger comes and goes at various times to that no one can determine the schedule.
I have spoken with two different cops this summer about the some of the woes on the pier. Specifically, I was discussing with them the waders in the water and their disrespect by tramping through the water people are fishing. Response:
Cop 1: Throw sinkers and hooks at them. Of course if one is to do this,
he now creates a voltile and dangerous situation and assault.
Cop 2: We do not enforce that rule because we look like fools hollering at
them. They just ignore us and may be there for four or five
hours. I guess red and blue lights with spot lights on them is not
sufficient to get their attention.
This is the kind of information that needs to continually be brought up to the commissioners. I believe if we can demostrate a desire for a family atmosphere and continue to press the issue, something will be done. I just hope it does not take someone getting injured or a lawsuit for it to transpire.
There are several problems right now that need to be addressed:
1. Numerous glass containers
2. Minors in possession
3. Drunkeness
4. Rod limitation
5. Pocketing of pier admissions into employees pockets. May not seem
like a big deal, but it robs all users of the pier for upkeep and hopefully
security down the road. Demand a pier receipt when you pay!!
I have even heard people saying do what you want because nobody will do anything about it. |
