Hello all from way out Cimarron,

I have been lurking here for a whlie and finally signed up a while back but this is my first post.

My wife, the kids and I like to surf out past BHP. But more recently I have
been trying to get into topwater fishing. I bought a nice Diawa baitcaster and uglystick.I picked up some spook jr's and gulp.

My concern is how I have my rig set up for the lure. Does anyone know a good book of how to set up for different lure and live bait(shrimp, crocker, etc).

Thanks
Frank

For Gulps, I'll tie directly to the lead jig head when wade fishing the bays or surf. For topwaters I connect the main line to a small swivel attached to about 1.5 feet of leader tied to the topwater. Or I just tie directly to the topwater, but I've had trouble with braid getting tangled in the leader, so most the time I use the leader. I think all are pretty common set ups and I've caught (and lost) fish with 'em.

alot of it depends on the current / wind. with live bait, i recommend always using a leader because alot of fish in the ocean have strong jaws and teeth. after that it depends on if you want to free line, or fish on botton. i always try to get away with the largest leader i can when fishing live bait so the bait has more room to move and act freely.
