If beach equipment rentals were available would you use them. The business would stress quality products at competitive prices. They might even go and set up camp for you for a reasonable fee (still invetsigating if you can or can not do this on PINS).

maybe pop-up campers
no kayaks

maybe boats at some point in the distant future (pictures of boats on the banks seem to scream BAD BAD BAD Idea)

Because I live here, I don't think I'd rent anything. If I was an out-of-towner who regularly came then it would definitely make for an easier trip. If I'm not mistaken, the marina on the base offers all or most of those rental items...of course its just for military & govt employees.

Why not kayaks? Is it a liability thing? I'm thinking about renting one to try it. But I'm sure it's a pain in the rear for out of towners to bring them down.

The reason for no Kayaks is pretty staright forward and leads back to the issue of customer care. There is a business (Jerry B's) here already that does a great job has a loyal following for a reason and knows a whole lot more about it than I ever would.

Besides I think you would want to partner with folks like that for referals etc. Same as the fishing equipment - go to Roys.

I think you would keep some frozen bait but that would be about it.

The business would definately be targeted at folks traveling down to play.

I think you may some interest in this idea. Particularly things like campers, tents, and accessories. The cost to haul all that sort of thing to the coast is a major factor. Also those folks like me who would like to spend a day on the beach with the family but dread the hassel; packing, unpacking, set up, take down, repacking, hauling home. Then real hassel cleaning all that crap after being on the beach while the wife & kids squatt in front of the TV or even worse whine & gripe the whole time they are supposedly helping.

If the idea get's off the ground you could make the tackle & kayak rental arrangements through Jerry's & Roy's. That's a value added proposition for all parties involved.

One thing though, when I rent stuff, I hate the feeling that everyone knows I have rented all my stuff. I know; why should I care; but I do. So, if you can keep from painting big signs or overly obvious markings that goes a long way with me.

Beach rentals always seem to make money during the season. I think its worth looking into. I mean look at places like Florida they have have everything for rent. I especially like the generator thing. We might have to have a after work meeting and discuss this thourghly over an icy one.

How about a hot shower truck? Ride up and down the beach selling showers - I would shell out for a hot or cold shower

Thought about the truck but you have the issues of where would you dump the grey water and how the HECK would you get it all in and out of the park in deep sand? Water is heavy you would have to heat it, or would you ?

But you could rent shower tents with solar shower bottles.

Margarita machines not a bad idea a friend of mine had one that ran off a weed eater motor. Worked well for tailgaiting keeping his neighbors up late etc. Wonder what the liability issues would be?

On my beach truck I've got two water tubes (schedule 20 pvc) attached to the top rack by stainless hose clamps. They're painted black and each has a spicket to get wet under. For pressure, all you have to do is blow two good breathes of air in the tubes. If the sun is out the water is at about 105 - when it goes down they quickly cool off. I just stand on the sand, so there is no collecting of grey water.
Put big airplane (flotation) tires on the rig - i always wondered how those tires would work in the sand???

I shoulda kept my snow plow when I moved down here form Minnesota. $10 bucks and I'll plow the weed to the side and give you an nice sandy place to sit.

No doubt I would do it and probably many of the other newbies. I have wanted to go down to PINS for a while, but getting everything together and buying the items I dont already have to go to a place have never been and may not be feasable to return has kept me from it. If I had the ability to rent everthing I need and could run down for the night I would have already gone. If it turns out I love the place I buy my own stuff and go a few times year. I would imagine if I lived out of town and wanted to check it out, spending a couple hundred dollars on rentals instead of hauling everything down would be mucho appealing. Some friendly advice and some good equipment would go a long way in making the beach more accessible. Good idea and good luck
