So what's the deal with NAS metal gate that blocks off Ocean Drive just a few feet past the University's island? A while back they said it was to be closed from "sunset to sunrise," but it seems they are leaving it open on weekends. Are they just forgetting? People were up in there gigging last night, and there were plenty of anglers around the Oso peninsula. They're never really consistent as to when they close it with respect to sunset time. Whatever the policy on that gate, I wish they'd state it and stick to it. I don't want to accidentally be caught in there gigging when I'm not supposed to by some non-coastal MP who's never seen someone gig.

I work out there, if the gates closed its closed, if the gates opened well its opened. The sailors/ guards or the Master at Arms, will ask you to leave if they are closing the gate, unless you appear to be doing something wrong. If approached be couretous and respectful, if you get out of line with them i guarantee they will get you back in line. As long as you are legal no problemo...... _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

yep I have seen it locked all day on a saturday & sunday
but lately it's been open early and before 7am this saturday
I wish they would put the gate on the base side of the bridge closer to their fence line. |

I think the gate is on the property line of the NAS military reservation. Another thing one could always do is drive all the way up to the guard shack and ask them questions that way you can get the straight skinny from them. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
