After those last rains mine has really took off. Already been picking green beans, leaf-lettuce, Squash & peppers.
Cant wait for the Maters & Sweet corn to be ready!
This also helps reduce those high grocery bills! Post up pics of your spread.
Couple of my pepper plants died.but these made it.
Squash looking good.
Hope to do some Quail & Pheasant hunting this fall in the corn field. (lol)
My way of "going green"
Nutin like eatin off the land. Also lots of fish carcasses buried thoughout the year in the soil.

good looking garden. reminds me of when I was a kid on my grandpa's land. He used to have a couple acres that he grew vegetables on. They beat the grocery store hands down to me. _________________ still chasing my 30" trout |

My spot is only 20x20 ft, but youd be surprised how much you can yield of it. just takes a few yrs to get the soil base mix worked up good, Plants love the sandy soil here in the Bluff. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

| Not bad. I wish I had that sandy soil instead of the black gumbo of Calallen. I had a big garden in Uvalde, but I am reduced to a couple of tomato plants and some herbs (note the plural) now. My tomatoes are nearly chest tall now, however. I am a believer in the organic fertilizers for tomatoes. |

Nice job Bluffer. Although I don't live down there, I too have a garden of about 40' x 60'. Our normal last frost date is around April 10th so we can't get started as early as you . I do know one thing: if I DID still live in CC my yard would be full of avocado, lime and orange trees to go along with the fresh maters, jalapenos and onions that I would be regularly using to make a fresh batch of ceviche!!! Ah yes grasshopper, I too enjoy some of life's most simple AND delicious eating!
Although I use my own throw together recipe, y'all may enjoy these.

| Great looking garden there Bluffer. I used to be big time into that. Looking at your garden makes me want to get back into it. I think I may have to move to God's Country first as the soil on my side of town is that black gumbo. |

that's a great garden there.....agree that you can grow a lot in 20 x 20.
Square foot gardening is good to do is small places, or companion, like growing giant sunflowers with pole beans, so the stalks become the trellis and both thrive.
Gardening is spiritual to me where the "law of increasing returns" occurs. I mean, you plant (1) tomato plant yet reap (40+) tomatoes throughout the season. We also like to grow more than we need and give to everyone, including some bugs and birds. We are currently feeding monarch butterfly catepillars with our dill and look forward to seeing the butterflies that grow from them.
and isn't the garden a great place to bury and recycle your fish guts? _________________ No matter where you go, there you are.... |
