Woke up this morning to do some fishing. Got some coffee, called my fishing buddy and told him where to meet, got the kids up and told them we were going fishing. All was going fine 'til I went out to load up my fishing gear. Went out to my garage where I built a beautiful rod rack for my "arsenal" (as my wife calls it) and my rod rack was empty , , ! Some "so and so" (I know this is a family forum) decided to break into my garage and steal ALL of MY rods and reels. All that was left were a couple of small Zebcos and a Batman fishing pole that not even my kids use anymore. All totalled, 14 rod and reel combos and 4 empty Ugly sticks were taken. Most were Penn outfits with some Shimanos, one Garcia and one Okuma thrown in. Approx. $1500worth of stuff. One of my Penns was a 20+ year old senator that was as smooth as the day I bought it. Some of you guys know what fishing means to me. I mean, they could have stolen anything else I own and I would have said "oh well, that's life", but my fishing gear! I have read stories like this on this board before, but I figured since I lived in a "nice" small community, I was immune to that kind of stuff. I guess no one is immune to the kind of people that make a career out of stealing stuff. It took years to collect all of that gear. I guess it might be a while before I post another fishing report. I will be vicariously enjoying yours, though. Catch one for me.

Sorry to hear some low life would do that.
Check the pawn shops. Mark your rods and reels with something that will darw attention to them if someone tries to sell them. DL#, name.
That's what a cop told me anyway. Hope some of it turns up.

| It happened to me the first week I moved here in 1998. It sucks. I made the mistake of leaving my garage door open one Sunday morning while I was at home. |

It even happens in Annaville every once in a while....I lost a power washer from my garage and my neighbor lost a tool box last year.. The only crime in my neighborhood that anyone remembers.
Make sure you call the cops and file a report with a good description.
Sorry that we have lowlife scumbags that do stuff like this and sorry you lost your stuff! _________________ http://www.thirdcoastoutdoors.com

Sounds like y'all should be investing in home and car security systems down there! _________________ Dave

Good luck finding it. That happened to us a few times. We thought about baiting the theives in and shooting them with paintballs. |
The calcutta the 2 200 with the low riders sure look like the one stolen from my place. I have a place near the 3rd coast guide and I feel we had the same person getting our stuff. Nothing has happen since they have move away. |

I even shut my garage door when I am going back and forth from the front yard to the back doing yard work. I carry a garage door opener in my pocket to open and close the door. Simple, if I am not watching my garage it is shut. Sometimes my wife gets on me for setting the alarm when we are gone for 5 minutes but oh well, she gets over it. Some may say I go over board but it seems to work. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

This was the context: "decided to break into my garage and steal............." . "Break into" doesn't jibe with the garage door being up to me, but who am I to say? The point remains. There's not week goes by down there without someone on this forum reporting theft, usually from a vehicle though. Theft is theft. If they steal from your car they will steal from your abode!
Mastergunner has is right. Until society gets fed up with all of the gang induced violence that's taking over the country and decides to act more decisively on it, you can't enjoy the simple pleasures of forgetting that your garage door is up or leaving valuables in plain view in your ride! I know, I know; what's this have to do with gangs? Even if every punk isn't a gang member, they are emulating gang members to look "cool" in the eyes of their peers. Even kids that live out in the suburbs and the country are wearing gang styles and mocking gang lifestyles [can you say "rap"?]! Some realize and a few don't! _________________ Dave

How about all of us fed-up fisherman rent a billboard along the highway going in to Corpus that warns tourist and fisherman what a great place Corpus is to have all your equipment stolen!
Do you think that would cause some action by the police force there? Surely wouldn't help the 'resort' image the city council wants set for the city.
Maybe some texas news reporter would pick up the story of a grass roots effort to get some attention on the crime there. Or even a parade in front of city hall of everyone who's had something stolen in Corpus. (that should be a crowd...)
There is no reason crime has to be that bad. To my knowledge, I've never heard of the CCPD doing any type of stings or stake-outs or even addressing the issue. Stakeouts over an unlocked car on Water street, or a pickup w/ fishing equipment at BHP should be routine. They should do a sting and then publicize the hell out of it on the news to make thieves think twice when they see an opportunity... The CCPD seems to have the mentality of wait until something gets stolen and then tell the victim "they're out of luck because these guys are pros at getting rid of stolen merchandise."
I'm serious about the billboard idea.
From a guy who's been ripped off twice. |

| We saw a guy go into the neighbor's garage across the street and steal a lawn mower and chain saw. They caught him and he was not a gang member. They say most are meth addicts and those hooked on drugs jonesing for a fix and needing money. |
