This is a re-post of an e-mail I received from TPW.

Is it leagel to filet my fish that I catch on Bob Hall Pier at
the 2 cleaning stations that are provided for that purpose.
Thanks,
Bill Smith

Mr. Smith,
It is legal to clean fish on Bob Hall Pier, but only after all fishing
has ceased and your fishing equipment has been placed in you vehicle.
If you have anymore questions, please contact the Corpus Christi
Regional office at (361)289-5566.
Thanks,
Lt. Toby Murray

See the BHP thread.
Me:
Quote:
I never heard back from my source with the email addy of the official guru I was looking for, someone high up in the TPWD to settle once and for all the debate on filleting fish at the BHP cleaning tables. I did get a name and an off-the-cuff explanation from one of the two TPWD captains who attended the first of the Packery ordinance meetings a week ago Thursday, but I still lack his superior's addy so I can solicit directly a written response to post here. Maybe by the end of October I'll have the right language for signs to post at each cleaning table.

Me:

rabbit, that's been more or less my understanding all along about filleting, but there are a ton of folks who've quoted dissenting opinions from sources they trust on other threads. I'm not going out on a limb again while those hounds are still baying up at me until a real, unassailable, gospel-speaker hands me The Word in writing that guarantees the limb won't even sag.

I sent an e-mail to TPW and they said
YES you can
" as long as your fishing equipment has been placed in your truck or car."

and my reply:

And I had a TPWD captain tell me something a little different less than 2 weeks ago, as well as the name of his superior in Austin who could confirm it. What I still lack is an email addy for that superior so I can ask for and receive the confirmation in writing. Whatever I get I will cut and paste to this board.

Be patient.

Doesn't sound like that big a deal the TPW guys are never there anyway. Kind of like ,does a falling tree make actually make noise in the forest if no one is there to hear it?

Someone pmed me the phone number for the source, several ranks higher than any cited on this board so far, I need to get The Word from. I called immediately, but he won't be in the office until tomorrow. I'll phone again then.

The whole point of this exercise is to bring before the parks board a recommendation for the language to put on signs at the BHP cleaning tables. I don't want language for barrier islands, boats, or even other piers, just for those two cleaning tables. If I can get confirmation from this legal expert, I think you're all going to like what that recommendation will say better than the interpretation at the beginning of this thread. Very Happy

Meanwhile, Gib and others are shaking the trees very hard to get better enforcement for BHP. If you think you won't get caught but one of those trees falls on you, the next thing you hear may be a request from Smokey to sign a ticket Sad
