| I bought a new Kistler Rod this past weekend and was able to use it down in Rockport. Man, I really love this rod. I got the 6' 10" Corky's Special. It casts well, has a good backbone, and was in my price range. Has anyone else taken a look at these rods? I've heard that Trey Kistler was a designer at All-Star, Castaway, and Falcon for a while but that is just a rumor. Either way, its a nice upgrade from my Texas Tackle Factory rod. |

| Broke a 7' Kistler I used for reds fighting a drum. Called them up for warranty and they would'nt do anything. Other people might have had better luck with the warranties, but I switched to Falcon Caras. |

| Thought I might be the only one. The truth hurts, especially when you've got a high-dollar walking stick that used to be a decent rod. |

Man, that kinda wraps it up in a nutshell. i truly believe from what i have learned from all the folks on this forum ...i would come here first and ask questions about a fishing product, that i know nothing about, before i spend the bucks. One thing i hate is bad customer service. So far for the money, my shimano rods have held up very well , and that darn ugly stick that i use for my drum rod its over 5 years old and the tip hasnt even come off yet, its not a fancy rod, and it does the job. ims _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

[Man, that kinda wraps it up in a nutshell.]
Too funny, havent tried one myself. I have a couple of 6.99 angler rods that i use when casting an alameda. I have caught plenty of fish with that rod upto 40in. My dad freaked out when he found out how much i paid for my breakaway rods. He thought i was insane and said he wouldnt pay that much if the fish he caught came in filleted already. Although the cheapest rods may not look the nicest alot of times they do the job and some and the best part is its only 6.99 out of pocket as opposed to $$ 100+ if it breaks or something happens to it. |

| ISM is right I should have come here first. I was just POed with my other rod and had to have a new one right away. Its too bad to hear about the poor customer service. Hopefully I won't have a problem, but if I do, I'll be sure to mention that they've developing a reputation for not standing behind their products. Disappointing, but whats done is done. I'll see how it holds up. |

From what I can tell from a little internet searching, Kistler blanks probably come from Rainshadow (Batson Enterprises). They are generally good inexpensive blanks. You might consider having something custom built next time....for the same price you could have something unique for about the same cost with better chance of blank warranty.
Here's one I built last year specifically for flounder...

If you want something custom shoot a PM to TarponTamer , his work looks awesome and theres nothing like a custom , I had someone build me a custom for my R&R and it is a night and day difference , just hope nothing ever happens to it . For store bought I really really like Falcons rods . Oh yeah , the oldest rod I have is an UglyStick , never leave home without it ... _________________ I,d rather DIE while i,m living than LIVE while i,m dead

Any experience with G Loomis Greenwaters? I don't mean to hijack the thread but I was with Old Sanch when he bought the Kistler at Tackle Town so i figured I'd ask.

Loomis replaced a blank with a tip failure for me a couple of years ago. Had to send them the broken rod for inspection. They promptly sent back a new blank with all of the titanium components I had used to build it. Nothing bad to say about them...
Loomis makes a great product, although some will say quality went down slightly after they were bought by Shimano a few years ago. |

I have had Kistler rods for seven years and durning that time I broke one rod fighting a fish and they replace it no questions asked. Trey, the owner has alway's backed his product for me. He also replaced one that got broke in the back of a friend truck while we were going fishing. No problems. I dealt with Trey personally, and have never had a problem.
I did paid 15.00 exchange fee one one. |

| I guess then it sounds like generally speaking they are pretty good rods, which is what I thought too. The concern is customer service. Case in point, there were a few rods broken while fighting fish and Trey didn't, for whatever reason, replace them. The only problem I have with that is that the rod broke in the first place. At that point if its replaced or not doesn't really matter to me. I've got Falcon, Castaway, Ugly Stick, Texas Tackle Factory, and Master. If any of them break under expected strain, I don't want another one. And depending on how much I paid for the rod and how big the fish was I lost, I will curse them until the end. I heard All-Star used to have that problem too, which eventhough I don't know that is a true fact, is part of why I don't have one. |

Thanks for the props Juanpescado, much appreciated. Remember to give me a shout when you get back from iraq and we will get you a nice rod built.
