Here's something simple that brings hurricane to reality... a Hurricane Destruction Animation by AP. I don't know if it's been posted here before, and if it has, well sorry I missed it.

Click on "Play Animation" and have speakers turned up.

After viewing that, does it make sense to board up at all if there's a Category 2+ that comes to Corpus Christi with Dean or any other future hurricane?

NOTE: If Dean goes south of Corpus Christi, we may get torrential rains here... right? The rains are heaviest north east of the storm?

I have never been through a hurricane, last on to hit us at all was Allen in 80, and I was born in 82. However I traveled through Beaumont, Louisiana, and Mississippi after Katrina and RIta, and I was in shock. Seeing pictures and video is 1 thing, but first hand is totally different. When this thing hits the gulf i am gone, noway I will hang out here and wait, and I plan to take anything I want to keep. IF I leave it plan on it being gone. I will never look at hurricanes the same.

I was working for Exxon in Baton Rouge when Hurricane Andrew creamed Florida and made it's way through Louisiana.

I headed up a civic center that was used to shelter those people who didn't evacuate. Man, people can become rough and very demanding during unrest. There were some people who were just terrible! Though I would have liked in helping, I'm glad that I wasn't anywhere in New Orleans after the immediate recent storms!

Oh yea, when I was in Baton Rouge for Hurricane Andrew, man I had no power in my 7th floor condo. Up and down the stairs for over a week without the elevator and NO AC. When I was running the evac shelter, I had to make some runs to the central Red Cross to get more food and supplies. I drove my little Honda Prelude in torrential rains and heavy winds. While driving across the city, I passed by some cemeteries. You see, in Louisiana there are on top burials. That meant I saw some coffins that have been dislodged underneath the stones. It was something out of a thriller movie. Very Eerie! I drove past those areas quick.

Well, I'm glad that Hurricane Dean looks like it's not headed toward our way: at least for now! Though, we have to pray for people in Mexico.

Was 12yrs old when Celia wiped out Corpus back in 1970. Thing I remember most about it was people fighting to get Ice & water off trucks that came in from San Antonio. Nobody prepared back then like today, no internet, just what you saw on radar & didnt even know where it was going to make landfall at (we didnt even evacuate)
The worst was the aftermath with no power, massive trees & brush to clean up. The sound of chainsaws in the air filled all the nieghborhoods, esp since no A/Cs or even TVs were on.

Was in the Navy here in 1980 when Allen hit, made landfall south of here around Baffin & not as much damage as Celia, still lost power then also.
Both were cat 3 storms when hit landfall, would hate to see what a cat 5 would do.

I've been in several small ones in Florida, one Cat 2 years ago. I went down to the island on Saturday with plywwod bought here in SA. I figured it would be all gone in Copus. I boarded up my place yesterday and I was the only one I saw doing it.

I'm afraid Corpus is not anywhere close to being ready for a big storm. Everyone was acting like it was a normal weekend. I still can't believe it. Its better to be ready than sorry later. Do what you can and leave.

I've been in all of the hurricanes that affected Galveston starting with Carla in 1961. Being 40-50 miles inland helps tremendously. Rita scared me if it hit directly on Galveston. I probably would have left even if I didn't have old dogs to worry about.

If the predictors are accurate Cancun wont even get hit hard, everytime I see an update its farther south. No wonder nobody here is boarding up, I feel the tracking technoligy is great today....time will tell.

i went through rita in jasper 2 years ago. We are 60 miles in and still got the worst of the storm. it stalled on us and there was something like 50 recorded tornados pop up in the midst of it. we didnt have running water for a week and were without power for a little over a month, now that sucked. not to mention all the pine trees down. luckily the three that fell at my house missed. my neigbors on both sides were not so fortunate.
