A friend of mine said the ranger told him Kayaks were not allowed past the 4W posts on PINS anymore.
What is up with that as a lot of fishermen use them to place their bait out past the 3rd gut. _________________ Willee 361-563-1303 |

There is no logic in not allowing kayaks past a sign applying to motor vehicles. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I was just there and renewed my annual pass. The Ranger did ask if I was going to use my Yak in Bird Island Basin? I said no and she said there was an additional park fee of 10 dollars a year for that privilage.
I said cool....got to keep up the resources....and moved on. _________________ Paul S Perez

I do not understand.
It costs extra to launch a Kayak at Bird Island Basin or to Kayak there?
Must have something to do with the fact there is a Kayak rental business there.
Does that apply to the wind surfers and small sail boats as well?
How bout if you launch at the boat ramp area ... is that extra also?
Not that I am complaining .... $20 a year is a deal to use such a nice area for a full 12 months and an extra $10 still makes it a good deal that I would be willing to pay.
They do keep it nice and clean and it is one of my favorite getaway places. _________________ Willee 361-563-1303

There ya go bringing LOGIC into this.
Can you explain the logic behind not allowing a waverunner or a small Zodiac inflatable boat down there?
What can a waverunner or a Zodiac inflatable possibly damage on the beach that a 4-wheel truck can not? _________________ Willee 361-563-1303 |

Zodiacs are indeed allowed.. I believe there is a MAX on the HP limit.. IIRC its 15 hp.. Small sailboats are allowed as well but nothing else..
I really wish I could take my little stand up jet ski out there it would be great for running out bait.. No dice on that.. Not sure WHY though.. |

The personal watercraft ban is a federal park regulation, they are banned at all federal parks. I think PINS should be an exception because it is open gulf water and not lakes or rivers as most parks have. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

You do have to pay extra to use the boat ramp at Bird Island. I'm not sure what that fee is because I go with my cousins that have year long passes. One for getting into the park and one for the boat ramp. And you better not park with a tire in the grass or it will cost you a 100 dollar fine.
