Howard Boyer's LTTE, combined with the poison pill language in the City's version of the charter amendment, makes you wonder if the City's long-term goal isn't to close all the beaches to vehicles, just as Councilman Brent Chesney said. Certainly, there is nothing I can see in the Texas Open Beaches Act, aside from specific language apparently guaranteeing vehicular access within 1000 feet of each end of the seawall, that would stop the City from doing just that. I'm awaiting a reply from the Office of the Attorney General about that last potential hitch in the plans to close the 7200 feet.
If folks from outside Corpus Christi, such as Billy Arredondo, want to keep driving on the beaches, they should to write to the editors of their local newspapers and especially to their representatives in Austin, asking them to amend the TOBA before local municipalities give, or steal, all the state's beaches away.

Beach gift
I see the City Council in its wisdom may put in a beach tram for people to travel to the 1.36 miles of private beach. Yes, that is what I said. City Council is giving the developers 1.36 miles of Texas beaches for the almost exclusive use of their customers. There is no other way you can explain City Council's actions of banning cars in this area.
But here is the kicker: When the next major developer decides to build on the beach, City Council will have to give them the right to private beaches or face lawsuits for discrimination. Better drive to the beaches now, because in 10 years they will be only a dream.
This, folks, is progress for the few and greedy.

Beach theft
I cannot believe what is going on in Corpus Christi. I am from Dallas and my family and I visit Corpus Christi at least three to four times a year. One of the biggest attractions for me is take a leisurely drive down the beach at sunrise and sunset.
Why would the Corpus Christi City Council elect to close vehicle traffic to the beaches? I don't understand why people who are elected by the people to represent the people sell out to corporate America with complete disregard for the opinion of the people who voted them into their elected positions. This is not public service. We should just call it what it really is . . . a public hijacking.
I encourage the people of Corpus Christi to stand up and make your voices heard. This is a democracy. Do not allow the City Council to hijack our beaches.
