Haven't waded the Oso South of the University by NAS since I was a teenager. Now that I am down for business without the usual herd of family, I thought I would go down memory lane a bit. I ALWAYS caught trout on Mirrolures and Spec Rigs on the bay side of the NAS causeway, maybe I can do that again.

My concern is, is it still a wadeable area? Is it considered University property now or closed off for base security? ? Also, is it safe to wade? I'm not up to swimming in mud these days like when I was 17.

Lastly, am I going to lose my car windows? It's a rental😜

Update:

Well, went out at 7 am, fished the bay side starting at the NAS fence. Wading was easy,, hard bottom and maybe 4' deep. Quite a bit of bait, esp small crabs. With the wind from the south the water was pretty much flat. Threw a gold/green Mirrolure at first and landed four undersized trout. Switched to a copper spoon and brought in 4 skip jack. Had the place to myself, one fisherman about 600 yards away under the bridge. All in all a very pleasant 2 hour trip before I had to be downtown. I'm quite pleased with the area, I'm going to add it to my regular spots. If I launch the boat at NAS it would be an easy trip over and would allow me to cover more water.
