Got the dreaded message from the County that I had Jury Duty today. Showed up (early) at the appointed hour, and thankfully it's WAY BETTER than the old 'cattle call' system at the Courthouse downtown. Now, you fill out everything online before-hand, and you get appointed to a potential Jury Pool ahead of time.
Mine was County Court of Law #5, at 10:am. (<-----Insert Jeopardy Music here). Nearly an hour later, the Judge comes out to inform the potential jury pool that the 'Child Custody Case" had been settled earlier by both parties, and 'we were free to go'!!!!!
He even mentioned that 'we didn't waste our time, having a jury here pushed the parties to settle in some fashion"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DIDN'T WASTE MY TIME!?!?!?!?!?! Did the parties actually think the potential Jury Pool wouldn't show up, and they could get away - Scott Free.????? This has happened more than a few times when I got called in. Settle at the last second????? It ain't worth the $6-$10 bucks, depending on the Court. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME.

Thanks for being a responsible citizen, even though the parties requiring the jury pool to be assembled possibly are not. As long as there are citizens like you our system will continue to work, regardless of how it can be a pain the butt sometimes. |

it's $20 now....
I went to jury duty last year, in front of Judge Inna Klein, and she had the defendant down in the jury room and held the court in front of all of us....it was a murder case, and she read out the charges and that the defendant was going through a plea deal, BUT she did it in front of everyone so we could see what that looks like....
we were all blown away....most people wanted to take the defendant out back and save the taxpaxers some money after we heard what he did....but we all learned alot about how things work, and Judge Klein explained it all as we went through the steps....
pretty cool

Yea, Becky. When my check came in, it was a whopping $20 and I was pleasantly surprised.
But I stand by my original complaint, that these Stunads wait until the potential Jury Pool is assembled to make a plea!!!

Being(way) over 70, they don't want me on their jury pool! I do two things to justify my SSA check each month. I VOTE, and I recycle aluminum cans. At least, one of the efforts does a LITTLE bit of good.......TexasJim _________________ TexasJim

right...what I've been thinking is that they could just record some video of the room being full of people, and show that to the defendants...stock footage...

I've only managed to land on one jury in all my years of going to these things, turned out to be some idiot that wanted to represent himself on a bunch of falsified traveler's checks.
His first comment was that he didn't want any police or doctors on the jury since they always lie about him. He had four strikes, but around 11 cops and doctors in the pool.
He got 10 years. |
