Greetings
Finally settled in after arriving on NPI. I headed South of BHP. First and only stop was in the 250s. I put out my long rod and got it all set. Then, I was putting out my second rod and noticed first rod had a very significant bend in it. It was not bouncing so I thought it must be a big glob of weed. I took my times with second rod before checking rod number 1. When I began to reel in only dead weight. Suddenly in started taking line. It was a big ray that measured 26 inches across the wings. I successfully got the hook out while standing on the tail. But when I start to release the Ray it hit me with the tail. The barb went into my heavy boot ankle high. I stood at the edge of waterline nailed to that Ray. The only tool I had was the hook remover. Finally I broke the shaft of the barb. When I slipped my foot out the tip was caught in my sock.
Could have been much worse. I have a hole in my wader and sock. But only a small scratch on my ankle.
Leason learned next time just cut the line.
I hope to find a patch at ACE. |

| Prior to this happening, if you would have asked me, what are the odds you can get a large ray to whack you with it's tail and imbed it's barb into your waders and sock, but miss your ankle (I'm assuming a scratch doesn't really count), I would have bet a large sum of money that you couldn't do it. A really large sum. Sounds like a fantastic start to the winter season - that was one in a million! Way to dodge that bullet. Now go buy a lottery ticket... |

| I'm glad you were lucky enough not to get it into your ankle. |
