Launched from Bird about 7 am, headed south. I was checking out a spot i frequent in summer, and wondered how it might be when the water temps drop. I was at my super muddy spot and in the water by 7 30. Before I hopped out I flipped out a topwater I had tied on just to check my tackle and had a red blow up on it immediately. Tied on a plastic, had a limit of reds before 8, in the 22 to 24 inch range. From there the 3 of us probably caught and released a combined 40+ redfish. They were all in the 15 to 19 range though. I knew there were trout there, and we caught a few right about 20 inches, but the rat reds were so thick I dont think the trout had a chance. From there we left the rat reds biting and headed further south looking for that big girl. Stopped in a less muddy spot, picked up a trout or 2 in the 18inch range. Moved again, another single trout in the 18 inch range. The wind was blowing pretty good so decided to call it and get back to the ramp. Kept my limit or reds, everything else released to live another day.

The cool thing is all those rat reds, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife, would have been in the maybe 8" range during last years freeze event and not only survived but are apparently thriving in that one spot. Hopefully that's an indication that the reds didn't get hit too bad.

Sorry no pics for this one but you've seen one limit of reds you've seen em all.

Good report hickroots. I also got into a bunch of rat reds the other day. It's good to see so many out there.
