This cartoon is just too funny. I see lots of these kinds of people fishing the freshwaters of New Mexico too.

I agree that it is funny, but recently on one of the Alaska reality shows someone was using their spinning reel the same way! I guess if no one has taught them otherwise they can evolve to using the reel that way. I've never tried it, but would think it's more difficult then when the reel is below the rod? Cool

Not sure why this is the case, but I've noticed while fishing the beach over the years that the chance of upside-down spinner usage increases notably when the fishing rod is white, and is damn nigh guaranteed when the fishing rod is white and the grip is still wrapped in shrink wrap.

and, the antitheft zip tie is still there holding the reel to the rod. With the end cut off the zip tie and it leaves something that pokes your hand as you are holding the reel.
