I normally launch from Bird Island and head towards big cove, and over the years we have done pretty good in that area for trout. I'm not lucky enough to leave in the area, so I haven't acquired any knowledge from the local folks, except from what i get from this forum. Any suggestions on how and where to target reds. I'm not asking for your spots, just a general area and method. We seem to catch one or two every few trips. By the way on our last two trips to the LM, we had a very hard time catching any trout. TIA and have a great week.

| You're not the only one having a hard time catching trout these days. Reds are hanging around in the grass to try to stay cool. Some of the guides say pull a three quarter ounce gold spoon through the grass to catch them. Today my neighbor and I were able to catch them using gulps under a cork only about 18 in deep. Lots of floating grass so that help prevent a lot of grass around the hook. In the mornings if the water is clear top Waters also have been producing reds in about a foot and a half to 2 ft of water. Working the color change |

| I kayak from there and have done well on reds around the boat ramp at BIB. Try working the the spoil islands along the intracoastal early in the morning with topwaters. Then, as the day warms up, drift the flats and concentrate on throwing to the sand potholes with soft plastics. I've also done well with shallow diving crankbaits and weedless gold spoons.. |

I launch from there as well and have been headed south, just north of the badlands and working a good drop off thats pretty muddy. Been catching really good amounts of reds and drum on spoons and plastics. Took some live shrimp and hammered the drum the next trip. Theres also been a few trout hanging around. They are in the dirtier water as opposed to the clearer water nearby. We are fishing about 3 ft of water but it feels like 4.5 when wading because the mud.... _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Why dont you come down and jump into the boat instead of doing all that paddling? |

Now that you own a boat that's longer than my kayak, I may take you up on that offer. |
