Headed to pins July 18th to the 21st, how are the driving conditions, I am hoping firm sand with the recent rain.
Anyone been out since the rains, how was the bite?
Thanks

The dunes and back Island are shedding all this recent rains. The driving lane is pretty wet, and rutted. (Or at least that's what it was South of Bob Hall at lunch today). Good luck to you farther south. Just go slow..... It was a tough ride. |

No, but the water has turned strikingly green! And the bird activity was up. I'd get out there if I was you. Be quite the change from New Mexico. |

Thanks for the update.
I am so looking forward to it, its been about 5 years since I have been out to pins or so it seems. My plan is to start around BHP and move south, then south of the sticks 10 to 15m or until I feel I will get stuck if I keep going. Planning on trying some bay areas also but may not be passable.

Good luck, Carlos.
I havent seen this beach and water look this good in a long time plus you have the good SE winds during your stay. Should be perfect. Don't forget your water, shovel and tentcot. And also don't forget the follow-up post! Looking forward to it. |

I stayed a couple days mid week and it was ideal. Lots of fish, but trout and reds seemed to be just at, or under, slots.
I will say I was surprised at the amount of tar on the beach. I didn't remember seeing it much where I camped, but on the way back I stopped at 28 and there was a lot. Sort of hard to spot as they are small clumps but I did notice large pieces here and there. |

| Hope the tar situation doesn't become like it was in the '80s. Had to carry baby oil with you constantly when you went to the beach to clean all that tar off your feet. And no matter how careful you were cleaning it off it always seem like something back to the house with you |

| I don't know what kind of parental guidance I had back then, but that sounds better than the lighter fluid we used in the 70s. |

| Indeed, the small tar balls were abundant in the first gut at sunrise this morning. Hadn't washed it yet, but they were there. |
