Well were i am sitting up in the Hill Country we are bracing for temps to be in the single digests Sunday night and Monday. Deer are Hungary.
The barge traffic thanks to new laws will be stationary thanks to the new laws that were put in place because some bad impacts several years ago. I never had seen that many large trout especially floating after the tugs turned the water in the ICW upside down creating a mind blowing fish kill.
I would think all fish will dive deep in the Padre canals and the ditch for sure the next few days.

I'm on a thread, and "they" have not yet decided to ask to barges to stop traffic...will do so by tomorrow at noon...
TPWD is poised to close fishing in those spots due to the cold temps, but will also make their decision by tomorrow...

| Surely they will close barge traffic. you guys are supposed to be below freezing Sunday night and Monday night... it may not get above freezing on Monday. I Am afraid there will be a significant Fishkill with or without barge traffic closure.🤞🤞 |

As zia said, TPWD shuts down some fishing during freeze events. You can search Saltwater Fishing, and Saltwater Freeze Events on their website for the areas.
Don't know who tells the barges to park it up.
I'll bet the sea turtles are busy looking for parkas! They'll be cold-stunned for sure.

I don't believe there is any type of law stopping barge traffic during a freeze. The last I heard this is "voluntary barge traffic suspension" agreed by the barge companies and the TP&W back in 2010. Hats-off to the barge companies for
the voluntary conservation action.
Unless something has changed.
The ICW is a Federal controlled waterway.

| Are the barges still running the ICW in the Laguna and Landcut or did they stop as we were hoping? I think speckled Trout is right...this is a voluntary agreement. |
