Went out about 11:00 this morning and went to an area where I was catching them the other day. The wind, which was really a breeze, was out of the southwest. That is the direction that I found that I catch the least fish. A couple little drifts and hardly a bite. I went back around to try to drift little different spot and when I stopped I noticed the wind shifted out of the prevailing southeast. So I moved and adjusted my drift and it was on after that. The first cast into a sand pocket with my white gulp shrimptail resulted in a nice 25-in trout.
On that same drift I picked up a limit of trout. Every one of them was between 19 and 23 in
At the end of that first drift I had a good hookup. At first I thought it was another big trout and then it started stripping my line. I thought all right a nice red. Then it kept stripping and stripping and stripping. It stripped me all the way down to my monofilament backing that I have on my reel. I thought for sure I was going to be spoiled. I finally stopped it and was able to turn it and bring it back in. When I got it to the boat I looked down and I said holy crap! While trying to net it it got off which didn't bother me at all other than that I couldn't get a picture. It turned out to be a drum in the 40-inch range. That was awesome. I went back around and made another drift or so and probably wound up with three limits or so of trout. Eight of them were over 20 in and three were between 18 and 19 and fat. It was an awesome, epic day. By the way, everything was catch and release today. I was just out for fun. |

Congratulations on a fun day! BTW, being the fisherman you are maybe you can tell me why the difference in the bite between a SW and SE wind? I, like you have learned the difference in the bite, but I'm not smart enough to know why. |

Looks to me like you had an epic week!
I think you have posted a solid report on something every day. Speaking of solid, those are nice trout. _________________ kick your shoes off and cast a line |

| As far as the southwest wind goes, the old salts I know from down here say if you smell cow sh!! Go home. As in, if the winds coming any direction from the west the fishing is not going to be good. I don |

| A much smarter person than me with much experience explained that the prevailing SE wind has contoured bottom structure that doesn't hold bait in a SW wind like it does when SE. Note the western edge of the ICW has a lip while the eastern edge slopes more gently - due to wind action. |

Thanks RPool, I have noticed the water gets dirtier with the West wind, but had not thought about it reshaping the bottom, which only makes sense. |

N-west wind drains the bays, while S-east wind fills them.
One place that fishes really well on SW wind is Estes flats between Big Cut and Little Cut - the Little Cut shoal stacks bait on a SW wind. |
