I was to meet up with my brother and his kids (24-27 yrs old) for the weekend.

I left Arlington around 1p and got to Corpus around 7pm. While waiting for my brother, I stopped at the Causeway Pier and watched people catching a bunch of sand trout. One guy from Fort Worth was just throwing them back and I asked if I could have them. He said yes. I ended getting about 10 up to 15 inches. Without wetting a line.

Saturday, we hit the beach SBH and it looked like YooHoo. Well, we gave it a try for a while and ended up with a few whiting and several hard heads.

After dinner, we hit Causeway Pier again and were there from about 7:30 until after midnight with just a few sand trout and a whiting for our efforts.

The staff and the people at the pier were very friendly. There were lines crossed due to the tides, but they were all worked out without anger or drama.

Total take home was 18 sand trout and 2 whiting.

Looks like I will be making more trips down there now that my brother has retired.

I don't know why they throw out sand trout like they're garbage; they may be smaller than specs and not fight as hard, but they're just as good eating! (And plentiful with NO restrictions!)

The piers at Cos Way and Red Dot usually have experienced people there because the currents are usually ripping, so most everyone that goes through there is used to line tangles. Laughing

Sounds like a fun trip. Too bad about the YooHoo water though.

On the way out to the island on Saturday to take our great grandsons to see the lighted boat parade we noticed that both piers were packed with people and many fishermen all along the causeway fishing in that gut that's about 20 yards out.
