Got into the reds yesterday (finally!) and to a more limited degree, today.
Yesterday late afternoon took my buddy from Bandera and his son out for a few drifts. We were fishing plastics in clear water and picked up a 22 and 27 on the first drift. Did the drift again and buddy hooks up, a few seconds later I hook up and realize we are in a school and a couple short casts later his son hooks up. So we have a Chinese fire drill on the boat with three reds. My friends fish was 32, son went 25 and mine 28.5. Mine swallowed the hook deep so I cut the line and tried to revive it. After several minutes of wanting to go belly up I tagged it and put it into the box.
That triple hookup was a first and something we will not soon forget.
Brought that party in around 5:30 and took my daughter and her boyfriend out to the same area. In a little over an hour we boxed a 27 and released a 25. We added three 17 inch trout to boot.
Noon today we went out to the same general area and released two 22s. Weather underground was spot on with the wind forecast today, no doubt.
All fish were caught in gin clear to slightly murky water that was 2 to 2.5 feet deep. Mixed grass and potholes. Soft plastics and Gulps, color did not seem to matter as white, purple, pumpkinseed, green, new penny, etc. all seemed to produce. |
