excellent tale, and grabs you right here:

The story might also distract some folks from fishing...
Buy a metal detector and let a family member put it to use while you fish. |

Just dont get caught with a metal detector on PINS. One more thing that is illegal on the national seashore. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Great story, but remember they only 'created' PINS after they dredges straight through the Spanish shipwrecks when making the Mansfield cut, locked it up so NOBODY could legally exploit the wreck site(s). 1967 - read it. Great music during that time too, but convince me otherwise we weren't still 'imperialistic' at that time.
Plus this story tells me they sailed from Port Isabel, which at the time did not have the cut previously mentioned. Sounds like they landed on the leeward side of the island somewhere, but nailing it down may be next to impossible. And again, no metal detectors allowed on PINS for a reason - the federal government owns all the 'treasure' to be had upon their quickly invented 'national seashore'. I love PINS, don't get me wrong, but as much as it is federally protected, I realize by reading many historic documents (such as this) that the feds made it federal property in a hurry and on purpose, for no one to exploit except themselves when the time is right. But that may in turn have preserved one of the greatest pieces of nature on the planet, so it's a push to me. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day.

| just a note, the metal detector ban was in place when I was a kid in the early 70's. It's because the island was a Naval gunnery range. I found several practice bombs when I was 14 just sticking out of the side of a sand dune. |

That too. Nothing like setting off unexploded and antique ordinances while looking for treasure. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
