Hey everyone I know it's spring break and the pickings are gonna be slim, but I am curious about where people tend to find live shrimp. I plan only to be there Saturday afternoon till Sunday but I was hoping maybe some of y'all here might know good bait stands that are over looked or that have steady deliveries? I ran into this issues back in January and had to go all the way to port lavaca to get shrimp. I love a good road trip but would like to try to avoid that this time.

I have noticed the bait shops that run out first are normally Bait bucket, cosway, red dot, clems, billings and marker corpus side. In Port A deep sea head quarters seems to run out fast too. I am not sure about Rock port. I have wondered if maybe Ts Head might have live shrimps but I don't know when the shrimpers come in. My only issues is that I won't be in Corpus till after 4 o clock and I know alot of bait stands close around 5 - 7.

I usually fish a bit farther up the coast, but going to the shrimp fleet docks is always a good idea - Fulton Beach, etc.

Pretty sure the L head is open to 7 or 8, the bait stand in nueces might close early, billings closes early, but red dot, Cos way, Clems all have drum tournaments right now so probably won't be closing till midnight or so. Marker 37 has also been closing early. Just call around, you'll find someone open.

From what I've heard shrimp is pretty hard to come by right now anywhere. Guess you'll have to go to plan B

So I was able to get shrimp in rockport but the odd thing is that later that night the shrimp simply started to die off quicker than normal. I haven't had "bad bait" before but I think this bait stand had bait only cause the quality was poor. I think the issue is the water they contained them in cause once I dumped their water and put in some water from another bait stand they were popping and grooving. I lost an entire pint but saved the quart so itwasn't a total lost. Has anyone else had an issue like this?

On a separate note the fishing last night was on fire for trouts. Around 9 or so the fishing really picked up for trouts and died off slightly for the black drums over at Cosway. Soon as the fog rolled in the trouts started up their little frenzy. The live shrimp didn't really work but lures sure did. After around 1 am I went over to bob hall and found out that they were still open but wanted people to get in. I was very surprised but maybe this is spring break operations. So afterwards I went to Clems to try out the "green lights". By then the fog was rolling thicker and thicker which gave a great green light show. The current was ripping and the trouts were loving it over at their docks. I will post some pictures once I get them organized. For the first day of spring break it wasn't to bad.

I always take a 5-gallon bucket and a flow-troll, have them put the shrimp in the flow-troll, have them add water to both in the 5-gallon bucket, and get the flow-troll in the bay as soon as possible. Can also get fresh bay water in the bucket as needed to haul them around.
As far as shrimp rig for pier fishing, I use XUL tackle, an unweighted cigar cork, 4' leader, and 1/0 kahle hook. The light tackle will sent the lightweight rig out of sight, give it a click every 30s or so. It's a never-miss bait rig.

These pictures were from saturday night into sunday morning at cosway and at clems pier. Some fish were not pictured cause they wouldn't cooperate haha. Good luck to everyone this spring break.

Good job! I remember going to clems when I had very little money and no girl in my life, slinging speck rigs and catching 30+ trout a night. Good cheap fun! That was before those fancy green lights Laughing
