I normally dont charge $$, but this getting crazy on the beach. I bet in the last 6 weeks or so I have pulled 30 vehicles out. Sunday I think I used my tow strap more than my fishing rod. I am seriously thinking about asking for $ to pull. Am I wrong?

I do not think you are wrong. The people you pull out are not going to buy you a new transmission or rear end if they go out while trying to help. I have pulled out many as well and will do so at no charge many more times. Just how you feel about it at the moment. Either way. What ever suits you. A cold beer at least.

Well if you pulled me out I would be greatful and would have offered money. 30 vehicles is a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle. Nothin wrong with charging $$ in my book. But you will encounter some people that won't have any cash, then what? It's kinda hard to be an A and leave em.

Right on though I have never actually charged anyone nor accepted anything for doing it.

I am with ya BL on the family thing. Came up on an older lady and her young grandson Tuesday stuck. She was trying to dig out her car with her hands, hooked up and pulled her to hard sand. Gave her and the kiddo cold drinks as they were very hot. She tried to pay and I refused to accept. I also pulled her son out that was stuck about 40 yds behind her. I pulled her first and son second, he drove off and left her, the kid and the pregnant girl( she got out when I hooked up to him) that was in his car when I hooked upto him. and got him to hard sand. The older lady came up to my wife , thanking her and offering $ to which we did not except, Thats the kind that make feel like you did good thing, the kid on the otherhand burned my @ss. I should have charged him! Oh well I'll get him next time.

its just like pulling someone in whose boat broke down. one day we all will be repaid for our good deeds. i know the feeling about being burned, i towed a guy in from the pure oil channel one day, two hours later we were just about to marker 37 and MY engine began to over heat. the SOB started his motor and drove off without a thank you. what comes around goes around!

That's the ticket. Same practice here.

You know the beach is bad when you're pulling people out at the parking lot at BHP...I did so this afternoon when I took a side trip to the beach to check out the conditions. I saw the fishtail of sand as this guy burried the rear of his explorer. A quick tug and he was out...easy to pull em out when all 4 are on the blacktop...He tried to pay me, but I didn't accept. He wasn't doing anything stupid...

last fall, a buddy of mine got buried at the 25mm and used onstar to call a wrecker. long story short- they were gonna charge him 6 grand (6000.00) to pull him out. he had an emergency back in san antonio and had to go so he said ok......after waiting for 5 hours and no show, he dug himself out and left only to find out that the towing company tried to charge him anyway. forget the name of the shop, but it was in corpus. will find out and postup the name of the place.

Wow! I may be in the wrong business!

I've only owned a 4x4 for about 6 months now and am still learning its capabilities in soft sand and mud spots. I braved about 5 miles of PINS south of Malaquite last weekend before stopping to fish and let the kiddos play in the sand. I passed by three vehicles stuck...kind of felt bad for passing them by, and kind of didn't care because it was SO obvious the sand was soft I felt as if they deserved to dig themselves out. Now after learning of possible damage to my own vehicle....it makes me think thrice about pulling out vehicles stuck to the axle.
