Back on September 1 I dropped a GoPro down to a nearshore reef off PINS in about 6 fathoms of water. It is less than a mile and half offshore. As far as I know it has never been dived and has no official name. It was an exceptionally clear day for Texas waters and this may be the best glimpse anybody has ever had of it.
I just now finally got around to editing and uploading it. If anybody is bored they can try making a list of all of the fish species seen!

That was very cool, would be good fishing!🤓
Without getting too into the weeds, I saw stingray, sheepshead, spadesfish, mangrove Snapper, Cobia, Amberjack, possibly almaco jack, possibly yellow jack, possibly one barricuda, possibly a few red porgy. Would make for a darn tasty meat haul!!!😳 _________________ Dave

great effort - I almost never watch videos, but that was fun.
There's a really nice guy on TKF who posts kayak videos and was recently given a new pedal drive kayak (of course so he's post a video). I couldn't sit through his, though skimmed it to answer questions -
- but yours, I liked. |

VERY nice video, I had to mute the music though.
Not meaning to ask for the spot, but are you sure it's a reef? As a kid I remember several near shore areas that were actually old wrecks uncovered by Celia.I'm thinking Harvey may had done the same. There was a LOT of boat traffic back and forth to Mexico and Brownsville near the island back before they dug the intracoastal.
One I specifically remember was on old wooden coal barge. You would find bits of coal and wood snagged in your anchor. |

Hey everybody, thanks for the compliments, glad y'all enjoyed it. I would love to do more but will have to wait until next August/September when the water is at its clearest.
maxwell - I think those are juvenile amberjack, don't know if they are greater or lesser amberjack.
BeachBum - is that you David? This is Phil, we fished together back in the day.
Johninaustin - No worries on the music, I know everybody has different tastes. Yes I am pretty sure this is a reef although I don't know any scientific background on it. The larger 7.5 fathom reef is basically a fossilized pond/lake, so this is probably something similar. |

| Great video and still shots. Quite the variety of fish on the reef especially the endangered red snapper. Thanks for making me want to go diving again |

Hiya!,
Yes Phil, it is I. I had been wondering what become of you, We need to get together and fish!
Maxwell, I think those are either lesser amberjacks that dont grow tot he sizes of the greater amberjacks.
Johninaustin/Phil - those might be sepulid reefs like you find in Baffin Bay. Fossilized tube worms. They litter the offshore waters in the 30s of PINS. _________________ FISH ON!!,
