What is your favorite spoon to use in the surf? My go to spoons seem to be 1/3 to 3/4 oz gold acme little cleos as well as chrome ones. I also like to throw krocodiles as well. I like to take a break from bottom rigs once in a while and the spoons seem to be a surefire way to catch ladyfish for my long rods to use as bait.

Silver Tony Accetta 5/8 or 1 1/8 oz spoons. After decades of making them they are no longer going to be available. Roy's bait and tackle still has some in stock as they bought whatever the factory had left. Jeff Wolda

When I moved down here all I heard from anybody was gold spoon this and gold spoon that.... I bought one and fished it until the hook rusted off. I bought a big silver rattling spoon and have fished it a bunch of times and I dont think ive ever caught anything on it. When I throw a Mepps spinner I catch fish.
I think Gold spoons are what locals and guides tell you to use so they can catch the fish and the gold spoon can catch you.

The gold spoon is my go to for reds in the bay. Sometimes they're too shiny out the box and you gotta scuff them up a bit. I've probably landed more reds on a gold weedless spoon than any other lure in my tackle box.... in the bay.

The surf is a different story. I like heavier like 3/4 to 1 oz. Non weedless Silver spoons in the surf.

As simple as spoons are, they are effective.

Pre boat days when I used to wade fish a lot off of Laguna Shores I used to have a gold spoon on a rod and two more stuck in my cap. Catch all the trout and reds I Ever Wanted. As far as the surf, got to go with TxHill.

One time when I was wading out there there is a guy in his wife anchored up using shrimp under popping cork. He asked me how I was doing and I showed him a Stringer of Seventeen trout and Two Reds. He was amazed and said he was about out of shrimp and had to go back and get some more. He had one fish on shrimp and I had all that on a gold spoon. He was going back for more shrimp. Go figure!

3/4 to 1 oz silver Castmaster style mostly. I'll throw the big 2 oz Slim Jims for Jacks.

Caught a lot of fish on a gold/bronze spoon, especially reds. What was the name of that gold spoon everyone used to use?

It's about all I use. There might be a Spec Rig or two in the tackle box. Wink

I only throw plastics in the Laguna.
