I havent caught a slot red all summer at PINS. As a matter of fact I have only caught one very tiny one all summer. Do the reds come into the surf later on in the year? This is only my second summer fishing here and last summer I was still figuring out rigs and stuff so I was happy to catch anything. I do remember that last year we started getting a lot of them in September, October, and November if I recall correctly.

Had a buddy catch a few on top waters while targeting trout in the wade gut 2 weeks back. They are there but will be there in better numbers September, october

Thanks, I figured it was something along those lines. Will try some topwaters next time I get out there. Seems like I can keep a bait on a bottom rig out for 5 seconds until the whiting nab it. They were even pulling menhaiden off my hooks a few days ago.

And at the end of September when the bulls hit, the shock goes all the way down your spine.
I've had them straighten 60-lb swivels. Use your pliers to crimp them shut.

If we get low pressure or a tropical system in the Gulf that fills the bays, when the water dumps out it will bring bait out and the reds will be running in it along the surf. Normally that happens, Sept - October but a high tide then low event can get them going.
