Has anyone tried using and had any luck with a cellular signal booster for getting a signal down on PINS? If they work well I think it may be worth the investment for me.

The issue down there for me, is just the dunes. Just about anywhere down pins, take your cell phone, hike up the highest dune around you, and at worst you can text.

If a booster can help you get a signal from the sand, as in , by the water where I park, I would buy one.

I have friends that use the Wilson boosters. They say nothing but great things about them.

Bt, would you mind getting more info - like do they use special antennas, do they work down on the sand, i.e. can they get phone service, down on the sand. Thanks.

I am definitely not looking for a sat phone although it does look nice. I want something that will boost my signal so I can send pics and things to my brothers while I am down the beach a bit. This is what I was looking at, although there are other less expensive models.

Here is link https://www.wilsonamplifiers.com/vehicle?menu

My friends use them here in West Texas so not sure about on the sand. They say they get a signal with it in places the had very weak or no service before. I believe you would need to be just on the edge of service for it to work though. I believe they use external antenna also.

$12 a month, but it's month by month and you can shut it off when you are not taking trips.

No problem. I only use it for emergencies, the wife wanted the real time tracker app and there is no charge for that part. You get a set number of texts in a month, either 40 or 50. (I forget, the most I have ever sent in a month was 12) if you go over that it's 50 cents each on the base elcheapo plan. Emergency tracking and rescue calling is free. If you want it for work there are business plans but I never looked at those.

The way we work it, , the wife keeps an eye on my location and I text her when the trip starts and when I start back. If she does not hear from me she can send me an alert or call Seatow or the USCG with my position. I use it for PINS trips, offshore and west Texas hunting, it's about as reliable as it gets.

There are cheaper versions, but they don't have the GPS and other doodads. Spotify is one, I think they sell for about $140.

Not too sure anyone wants to track me like that, you sound like a lucky guy. I am a disabled telecommuter - and while working when I am down pins sounds cool, maybe but would required blinders on me, well checking on emails might be great. But what I really do , is go find remote places to write code, i am a applications developer, I want to be able to write, download, upload code , so basically I need a good strong signal, and be able to setup a good hotspot, to be able to get on the internet and do my thing. I have done this in my old rv many times, but in areas where I got a good cell signal.

I have a pretty good contact at Wilson/WeBoost since I used to work for the lab that does all of the FCC/CE testing for them. I have reached out to see if I can use a unit to see if it works.
