I'm going to add my 2 cents....

CARRY A SPARE KEY!

Three times now I have come across people locked out of their vehicles on PINS. I carry a non coded (wont start vehicle) key in a waterproof key holder hidden on the exterior of the vehicle.

Last time I was on the beach someone in our camp locked his keys in their Dodge engine running and stereo blasting. You may want to consider carrying the following to help out if you have to.

1. A lock pic set
2. A slim jim
3. A coat hanger
4. A plastic tie packing strap. (bends easily and slips through door)
5. Malin Fishing Wire (got the Dodge open in 5 minutes)

I will be heading down to the Mansfield jetties this weekend to fish. Is it worth going with the storm in the Gulf, how do you think the fishing will be? Also, any advise as far as hazzards on PINS and the tides? Any advise is appreciated.

like previous response on lowering tire pressure.. one thing to remember, once you are going and you are in the soft stuff do not stop, or you are stuck..... and if you do get stuck, stop.. do not bury yourself to the frame..

Beach Trip
I would start planning you trip a week out, 1st by checking the web cams (bob hall pier), phone calls to Roy’s & P.I.N.S, web sites (www.corpusfishing.com), weather, moon phase & the tides. Gather as much info as you can about the conditions this will allow you to pack light.
There are two ways we fish the beach one is staying mobile fishing for Reds & Trout. This will allow you to hunt the beach for productive holes & structure. The other is setting up a base camp and targeting Sharks with large baits (whole bonita, Jackfish) kayaked out and placed on the back side of the second gut, third gut and up to 800 yards off shore. This allows chum slicks to build up over a several day period bringing the sharks to you. If you have people camping with you can take small trips looking for reds & trout leaving someone behind to watch the camp.
I prefer to set up a base camp with a group of 4 people and two equal sized trucks. This is how we break down the equipment and supplies costs. We camp for two nights and try to keep the costs under $150 each.
1st Camper (bait boy)
• 2 cases of whole Bonita (we buy it from a seafood company)
• 10 # of fresh dead shrimp
• Light sticks for traffic control
• Table
• Sun block & Bug spray
• Fire starter log or fluid
• Bait ice chest
2ndCamper (chef)
• A gas stove & grill
• Food for 2 breakfasts, sandwich items for 2 lunches and 2 dinners.
• Cooking utensils, seasonings, plates, plastic ware, napkins, dish soap & scrubber
• Snacks
• Block ice (we make our own in 5 gallon buckets) 2 large ice chests (one for food & one for fish)
3rd Camper (bartender)
• Beer Ice Chest
• 1 batch Hoggemary’s (1 large Clamato Juice, 1 bottle of Smirnoff, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of green Tabasco, 1 tablespoon cracked black pepper, 1 teaspoon of celery salt, juice from 2 limes, ½ a bunch of chopped cilantro) pre-make and keep in your ice chest for the mornings
• 1 Batch Hoggeritas ( bottle of medium priced tequila/ ½ bottle of triple sec / Bottle of margarita mix/ juice of 6 limes / 1 small jar of olives and the juice/10# bag of Ice/1 teaspoon of Kosher salt/ 2 bottles of water/place all in a Gatorade cooler and shake/ pour over more ice
• Bottled waters, Gatorade, sodas, Red Bull & OJ
• Clean ice for drinks
• Cups
• Coffee and ½ & ½
• Park pass
4th Camper (construction)
We are able to set up different types of camps so we can handle any weather conditions. Extra shade in the summer, tents in low wind to keep the mosquitoes off and eight 2X4’s to build a lean-to (if drift wood is not available). We set up the camp in two main areas: Sleeping and cooking area is set up closer to the dunes however not in the dunes due to bugs, snakes, coyotes, coons and now gators. We park a truck on the North and South end of the area so we don’t get run over by traffic. We angle a lean-to into the wind, cook and sleep behind the shelter. We also set up a tent so if the wind drops we have shelter from the mosquitoes. We use a series of up-riggers so we can move the big rigs closer to camp at night. This allows us to hear the clicker and to help stop theft. The up-riggers allow cars and trucks to go under your lines and stop you from getting cut off when the tide drops. If you sleep in a tent or camper you will not hear a small run or be able to get up in time to set the hook. We keep all of our food ice chests out of the sun under a table in the lean-to.
Day Camp is right by the high tide mark from the previous night. This allows us to stay close to the water and not worry about getting washed while you sleep. We keep a table & chairs, Bait chest, Beer chest, tackle and a fire pit (if you build the pit close to where you sleep you can get smoked out if the wind shifts)

• 4 cans Fix A Flat, tire valves and a patch kit
• Air pumps for tires and mattresses
• Shower set-up, Water and baby powder
• 1st aid kit, meat tenderizer & eye rinse
• Music
• Trash bags
• Weather radio NOAA
• PVC pole holders & mallet or fence pole driver
• Axe, saw & hammers
• Kayak
• Park pass
• Extra gas
• Light for the camp
• Table & Chairs
• Flash lights
• Bait buckets and cast net

Only have car, but can carry a dozen 2x4's on my Kayak rack...And have plenty of them in my backyard... Cool

Here is a fishing cooler you can order straight from the manaufacturer with markings that you design, however, the minimum order is 372 people. Wonder if we could get 372 people together to order a "Corpus Fishing" logo cooler box with radio. Laughing

Its a 37 liter too!

you wanna be sure to never drive up on the dunes... the vegitation and plant life are very fragile. driving up there is not only dangerous to the plants it is illegal. by goin up on the dunes you also put your own life as well as any passengers and your vehicle in jeaporady.
