We were talking to a friend of my wife's last night about jelly fish stings.
She is from the Philippines and shared something they do there and here.
She says when they get stung they just get beach sand in their hand and rub the sand vigorously on the affected area and in a couple of minutes the sting is completely gone.
While I hope I dont ever have to try it out she says they have been doing it for years and says it always works.

I would keep a bottle of vinegar handy. It changed an awful evening - to just a bad evening couple months ago.

I have heard of lots of different cures/fixes/solutions, but none that sounds as effective as this.
The claim is the sting goes away completely after just a couple of minutes and this coming from someone who claims to have personally done it numerous times. Not just hear say from someone else.
Just thought I would pass it along, and hope I never have to try it.

I would try it - my guess is that stuff like man of war - it would work well with, because the big thing is to get nasty pos off your skin quickly and sand would do that.

I know what Iron Man is speaking of. Really bad if you get stung on the face LOL. I always carry meat tenderizer in my vehicle at the beach. Rub the affected area with sand and then pack it with meat tenderizer. From what I've gathered the meat tenderizer breaks down the proteins in the Toxin and helps get rid of the sting

I have tried the sand trick and had no luck with a Man O war sting. Then we tried beer and then used beer! made it worse. What worked for us was scraping the area with a credit card and sprinkling meat tenderizer on it.
keep it in the tackle box to this day.

Same here - i have meat tendorizer in my tackle box, sure cant forget it there, and then vinegar - in my first aid kid - which was forgotten on the last time I needed it, and then two more containers of vinegar, stored away in pockets of the subie.

On the night of that box jelly fish or whatever it was, it was not a man of war, i was making up new cusswords as I drove down the beach - got to heb, 44 cent bottle of vinegar - a fine specimen of our young people - met me at the door - saying 'hey old dude, whats wrong ' - i told him, he raced back there - got it to me, i paid for it, and poured it on my ankle. The relief was instantaneous. I wished I had gotten the name of that fine young HEB employee.

A little off topic but I also keep a bottle of bleach in my Tackle Box. Especially after hearing about the vibrio today and the person dying from it.

Cotton swab or a rag, apply liberally around any cut. Hurts like h$ll, but quite effective.

Side note about bleach. While stationed in lovely Fort Polk in a previous life, I learned that I am highly allergic to poison ivy/oak/sumac {which they have a plethora+++ of! Shocked Sad }. Once I was fully rashed out, I would douse the affected area with bleach and rub with a washcloth until I couldn't stand it no more!! THAT is how I know it hurts like h$ll. But it dried and cleared it up 5X faster than anything I could get at Sick Bay.

Everybody has their own favorite. Tenderizer does work for jellies, (as does Bactine) I carry heat packs for stingrays. For cuts or nasty water etc I use about 10% bleach in a spray bottle with water and a bit of dish soap.

Thanks - and thats some good info about poison ivy/oak/sumac. That stuff is pretty thick or has been around the banks of the nueces. Been a while since I have been in it - but anything that can get it to dry up quicker is good to know about.
