I'll be moving down to Padre Island next month. I've got a 20 ft Robalo R200. I'd like to do some offshore fishing in it. What are the conditions typically like going in and out through Packery? I'm definitely going to pick my days and not go when the conditions are too rough. But I'm wondering if it tends to get bad every afternoon or anything like that. I'd hate to go out in smooth conditions and then get back to find out that I can't make it back in.

0-2 ft seas. Be careful at the end of jetties. There is a sand bar and if there are any swells, they get to standing up. Almost sunk my 21 Kenner going through there. Two swells over the bow before I could turn around. Probably a good 300 gal of water in the boat it seemed. Packery can be very deceiving leading up to that spot

the rules are that someone on board has to crack a beer and shout "aaaiiiyyyiiiyyyeeeee!!!" as you clear the end of the jetties...

I'm not kidding...those are the rules...
becky

(oh! and be safe...don't hit anything and keep the water out of the boat)...

Used to go through Packery till I was coming back in one snotty afternoon. Outgoing tide and waves breaking well inside the end. I hugged the south jetty and one swell had me scaring the poo poo out of the folks on the North jetty. I could tell you their eye color. Had plenty horsepower and managed the entry but it has been Port Aransas ever since. Your mileage may vary.
