Im not asking anyone to divulge their favorite PINS spots or spaces but can you give me any ideas of wider areas starting after the 8 mile area. Looking to stay for 3 days or so, Starting on the 5th of July, a thursday.
I hope the crowd has died down or gone home by then.

15 mm, the closed entrance to Yarborough pass is typically pretty wide. There is a fair bit of wide spaces up till around the 17-18 miles.

Does that mean that after 17-18 it narrows up and stays that way for the most part?

After 30 or so, there are some wide open places, it varies though. Best thing is for you to come in a 4wd vehicle on low tide, when the sand is hard, cruise down to mansfield, take a nice long break, fish, make and eat a nice lunch, take some nice pictures, then wait for the next low tide and ride it back. Just watch the weather, talk to the rangers, or other people who are watching the weather about any possible weather systems (like right now) that could mess with you.

If you have a big f150 or > or someother big high wheeled truck - and know what you are doing, you can make it most levels of tide, but it can get sporty even then.

I drive a subie outback and have been down to mansfield many times - but I followed my son in his big high wheeled 150 the first bunch of times. He was an old pro about going down pins. I spent about 20 years coaching his sisters and traveling the country with them, while he spent those 20 years roaming pins, like a good little boy.

Yes 4x4 Ram 1500 stock tires for now, big maybe compared to your subie.
Part of my looking for wide spots is to spend the night. Pitch a tent.
Went down to the 10 mile once fished all day left about 6. Mostly low tide the whole time only caught whiting. Wife did the hardhead catching.......
So I am a little apprehensive about going down and having the tide come in while Im asleep and finding I have a serious problem when I wake up or try to head back out.

Vern, there are some nice washouts at the dune line - that really look like someone took a bulldozer and prepared a nice camp site - quite a few of them, and they are a little higher up. Wouldnt say they are completely freak high tide proof but should be pretty safe. I see folks with darn near 3br2ba tents setup in those - their vehicle is backed in - nice, high and pretty safe.

Living so close to the island (44 miles) i have a hard time giving up a warm shower and my own bed, for the 'fun' of sleeping on the sand, though getting caught in a high tide, i have taken some long naps up in those washouts a time or two.
