I saw this yesterday near Access Rd. 2, towards Fish Pass Jetties, and it made me chuckle. All I thought of was, (in your best radio announcer voice),
"The Following PSA Was Brought To You By Capt. Obvious"!!!

You know why, right? Because I guarantee there was a lawsuit somewhere along the lines that some dummy touristo claimed he/she 'didn't know' they had to know how to swim in the ocean. They thought they would just magically be saved by friendly dolphins or sea turtles. And he/she probably won.
I compare this to the lady that sued McDonald's way back when because she 'didn't know her coffee was hot'. From then on, every commercial place that serves coffee ever in a Styrofoam/paper cup has to put a caution label because of this one case.
THIS is the world we live in.
(P.S. - I break the second rule all the time, because I was taught ocean survival skills by my father and formal swimming in the third grade by a stellar aquatics department for the school district I attended. But never for one second when I'm out do I ever think that I am not prone to being bitten, stung, swept away, or anything else. I ALWAYS keep my head on a swivel, but unfortunately, not everyone knows how to do that, and also more unfortunately, that skill seems to be less common as time passes and automation of life takes over. Stay humble and don't panic. You're a visitor in the ocean, not the other way around.) _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |

There are others that show video of the same thing and the first thing I think of is where the trout would be in that hole formed by the rip current. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Nah, that's just a plug for the swim lesson industry. The government is in their back pocket.yoou know..
One question I have, is the sign implying you should learn to swim once you're in the rip current or before? |

exactly, one of our pet peeves....the place where unsuspecting tourists think look like a good place to swim (which it isn't because of rip currents) is typically the best place to fish...
"what we've got here, is failure to communicate...."
