Mary and I got to the surf this morning south of Bob Hall about 7:30 a m. Water was about an 8 and not too rough at all. As the day went on the water got better and surf laid down more. This is what it looks like when we're leaving about noon.
Put out one rod with fish bites and shrimp and two other rods with cut bait. Lots of mullet in the water but most of them were too big to put on live. Had to use them as cut bait. Eventually around 11 some finger mullet started showing up. Wand of catching a bonnet on a shrimp fish bite and then a black tip on a live finger mullet.
Thought about throwing some lures for trout but didn't feel like it. Pretty awesome day out there though as far as weather went and water conditions.
Almost forgot. Also caught several Whiting that we're pretty nice and 2 blue fish |

These fish were caught by friends of one of my softball teammates got at the beach today behind the Mayan princess. They stopped at Marker 37 on the way back in to take pics. They were using Croaker Fishing the 2nd gut.

I was also at bob yall from 615 until 915. I was about 250 yards on the pier side of the huge dune with the cross. Forgot my dang rod holders when I loaded the truck at 4am sp only waded with croaker. Caught two slot reds. Pelicans were swarming me and skip jack tore me apart. Saw some trout but no luck. Going to drive back down in the am and try again. This time with rod holders. I'd add a pic but I'm technologically declined lol[/img] _________________ "When the going gets tough the tough get going" |

Best hurry.... The wind picked up today, but the surf is still green and clear. Pelicans and terns were having a go of it in the wade gut, at lunch today. Most Access Rd entry points are pretty chewed up, but once you get on the beach, it's smooth sailing from there. [All I saw landed today were bull whiting, but they were quality ]. |

I was out yesterday at various spots on Mustang Island. Conditions were almost perfect for topwater surf fishing. I fished from 0745 till 1100. I had to move to find them, and when I finally found them, I caught two big trout before the topwater bite died, but nothing else. One trout was a very fat 26", and the other was a slimmer but still hefty 24". Caught both on a clown super spook. My buddy had three by the time I left, caught on a trout one-knocker spook.
The surf will probably get a bit too high to allow for topwaters to be practical in the next few days, but if the wind stays out of a more south-easterly direction as forecast, the water will probably stay pretty green, and in that case, live croaker would probably continue to slay them. |
