The good: went to the urologist for my annual checkup after succumbing to prostate cancer over 20 years ago and got a clean bill of health.
The bad: got the results back from my general doctor on some blood work I had done for severe pain in my ankle and knee. Verdict was I have a buildup of uric acid causing gout. Besides drugs they suggest not to eat red meat, poultry, fish, or drink beer. Like that's going to happen!
The not so ugly: came home and went fishing to either celebrate or cope depending on how I look at it. The first fish I caught was a nice 27 plus inch red fish with 10 spots. That'll be a great one to have in the tournament.
Short while later as my black sand Shad hits the water and almost before I can flip my bail over my reel starts singing. Land a nice 29 and a half inch redfish which I released of course. On my way back in I try for some trout and was successful getting four nice Trout the biggest being 18".

That is a nice stringer - thats for sure. Regarding your health Z, seriously they told you not to eat meat ? Are you supposed to go vegetarian ? Define severe pain, shooting pain, or throbbing pain, or pressure pain, what kind ? I have pain in my bad leg but I assume that I earned that - every once in a while I wonder if it could be something other than the injury. But then - my test - is my right leg, and it doesnt hurt, it just does what its supposed to, which is why I think my left leg pain, is just the stuff from the injury. Your choice of words "after succumbing to prostate cancer" is a little scary my friend, when I hear someone succumbed to something, they died, and you are still out there keeping the fish in the intercoastal on their toes.
I was sure hoping to run into you at the clean up - but I was kind of a bit late for just about everything. Met some new friends - two young ladies my older daughters age - hoping to get them together for a fishing trip some time this summer. My older daughter, the usmc veteran, is pretty hard core about fishing , the younger two still like the crowded part of the beach, Amanda, the older one likes my choices - can i see anyone in any direction - nope - ok stop here. I think those three would get along real well. By 'hard core' I mean my daughter, a single mom, works her butt off, and when she is on the sand with me, she tries to make every minute count, my kind of fishing partner. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

I guess succumbed was not the right word. But in 1997 I did come down with cancer which also took the life of my dad and four of his brothers. The good news that I'm still alive and kicking. And everything going well. As far as the knee and ankle pain it is sharp very sharp pain especially when I walk in the morning. It's caused by Uric crystals in the joints.
The good and the bad of my post was just the intro to the good day I had on the water. Nothing takes away pain like being with the fishes |

Zia,
I started gettting gout real bad about 7 years ago. Once I finally went to the Rheumatologist he prescribed Alopuirnol once a day I I have not had an attack since. I Had it really bad to the point of not being able to walk and I swear by the results I got once on the meds. Hopes this helps. Oh, and by the way I still eat and drink all I want, much to the dismay of my blood pressure, but no gout issues. Good luck |

| Thanks texgator. My neighbor has been doing the same thing. The doc put me on another Med. I think it's mainly an anti-inflammatory though. Going to have to check back with the doctor. Thanks again for the info |

I got it in 99. And your "Nothing takes away pain like being with the fishes" is so true , its amazing. That stringer of fish you have on this post is probably one of the most classics of a good day I have ever seen. In probably a year , I am going to give a pedal kayak a try - and bird island basin area is going to be where I would fish when I am not on the sand.
I am pretty fortunate in that my right leg really is pain free, no knee or ankle pain - Uric crystals in the joints, thats sounds nasty. Does ibyprophen push that away ? Is that just age related or something you've had. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
