Packery channel, Packery jetties, Port A jetties, surf...
There is/was a thread on here with boat-less fishing spots... _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

| Anywhere along Laguna Shores Road. That's where I started all my fishing when I was first came to Texas. Still fish there, but now that I have a boat I don't have to get wet anymore |

I'd say the obvious answer is to get a boat.
Canoe, kayak....something.
Paddle upwind, drift back to your launch point.
Just kidding, that never works. The wind will shift and you'll have to paddle back to your vehicle.
Zia's suggestion is spot-on, though.
A drift through the area with DOA or Vudu shrimp will usually result in a limit of trout. Start dark and early and you can have the added excitement of the topwater bite. _________________ Take it outside! |

I am a surf fishing only guy - and while my fishing is awesome, my catching lags a bit behind some of the others - give me a yell some weekend when you are coming out. If you are interested in surf fish, a little windy, a lot sandy, but its always an adventure, I can show you some of the stuff I have learned.
I fished the surf for ever but the last 20 has been mostly spent raising and coaching a houseful of girls - and I am getting used to all Padre Island National Seashore (pins) has to offer. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Finding a place to wade fish will be one of your easiest problems to solve. Of coarse the ease of getting to those locations will largely depend on where you live, so you might think about your choice of locations when you get to CC. All of the bays are accessable by wading, as is the surf, so picking your pillow location will make things easier. Good luck, and enjoy!

That's hilarious and 100% true! I've had my butt kicked so many times In the yak but boy is it rewarding when you get on em! Use google earth and find fish on your own it's much easier than chasing other people's reports to me anyhoo. Good luck and don't forget about cc bay!!! |

Wow
Some good stuff here to assist another angler.
I wish I had know of this site six years ago when we made our first trip south
I came to NPI with no tackle and never had fished in salt water. No expert now but success rate is improving.
Atta boy to all who are posting tips.
I also will monitor as an opportunity for an improvement in my fishing |

| I also fish the surf most of the time. You will learn to read the surf and pick out washouts between the guts. Those are fish highways. Other great places to fish without a boat are: Packery jetties, Packery Park, Bob Hall Pier, Bird Island boat launch area. There is a trail around it and you can walk north to some great wading spots. I've caught limits of trout and reds there. In the winter, you can fish the channels in Padre Isles where there are no homes. |
