I know flounder are moving out. Anyone still picking any up with consistency in Port A., or thoughts if we are on backside of run?
Gig 'em good and enjoy a wonderful meal. |

Blanked twice so far, but limited trips to "easy access" points for short trips.
Had two 'solid' bites Friday along the ship channel, but couldn't get them to commit. Using plastics. _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

Crazy as it sounds, my most consistant place to catch flounder back in the day, was in the Nueces - close to the mouth, but then I also hooked the only tarpon I have hooked - right there, with a black and white feathered jig, my flounder lure. Cant get into that area now, except with a boat, our 'industrial neighbors' , flint hills, has it blocked off. Seems that they got upset with pollution reports coming from that area - and they had to fix that.
But flounder are fun to catch , great to eat, my guess is they like the bay, the intercoastal, jetties, those kind of places much more than the wild surf. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

| Anytime I want a flounder I go to the old Holly railroad Trestle off of Flour Bluff drive with a gulp on a jig head. Catch flounder anytime you want there |

It's not the walk that will get you, it's the "drive" from FB Drive to the old railroad over the Oso. Let's just say, it's fallen into quite the 'disrepair' in the past few decades!?!?!
But Zia is right. The old trestle is quite the place for flounder. (And for your 'surf question', around the jetties in September-December is prime time for flounder. I have speared more than my fair share along the sides of Port A and Packery. But it's close to the rocks, not out in the vast wasteland of featureless sand where most folks cast!!! ). |

I have heard about the flounder catches in those places around the jetties, but I cant get to those places. One of my landing gear was ruined some time back. Thats why I surf fish. I stop the subie, and 20 feet away, I am fishing. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

disrepair is correct...Harvey wiped out the last bit of the ends; you can't get on them anymore....there is only a small middle section left, and that requires a kayak to get to...the Holly trestle days are over, for now...

Zia and CS beat me to the draw..... flatties LOVE structure/cover. Like CS said, fishing IN the rocks or right next to seawalls, pilings and relatively small ledges in the bottom will put you in the game, if they are around.
A few years back I was fishing on the south (short) jetty at Sebastian Inlet, in June. Most definitely not the time of year for flounder spawning! Anyway, I watched a guy who looked like a seasoned jatty rat. I pretty much knew what he was fishing for when he stopped when maybe 15-20 yards out from the beach, on the surf side, hooked a live pinfish or finger mullet (hard to tell from my angle/distance) on a fishfinder rig with no leader (the slip sinker stopped at the hook) and flipped the offering maybe 20' out into the wash zone. He would work it back in slowly, like working a plastic worm. He hadn't been there 5 minutes and caught a good 5 pounder!!!
He split after that and I tried to duplicate his techique. Unfortunately, the tide went slack about then and if there were any still there, I got nary a hit! _________________ Dave
