Water was a real mess with loads of weeds, both sargassum and the grassy stuff. Usually I can catch bucket loads of whiting but could not keep clear lines so it was tough sledding all day and only got 5 in 7 hours that were all used as bait on the long rod. Now the good news... My wife landed her first bull red and I got 2 blacktips. All out past the second sand bar where the weeds were not AS bad. She also managed to get a slot red in close. Im guessing she must have dropped the mullet damn near on top of it before the weeds fouled her line. Weather was beautiful. 2 tides yesterday? I thought we only got one per day in the gulf? I will ask Tyler to post pics since I am having troubles. The Bull red was 39 inches.

I was down only a few miles, ran into seaweed and headheads. I got there around 530pm 1730 and stayed till around 830pm 2030. The weeds were bad but workable. I moved between over the across the 2nd gut to into the wade gut several times and would be good with avoiding seaweed some of the time. Caught a good mess of whiting - though was hoping for pomp. I was casting for the 3rd gut for a bit, but was not even close as far as I could see anyway and the weed out that far made it a mess. But, there was a moon lit sky, the wind was light, no mosquitoes. I probably caught 2 hardheads for every whiting i kept - caught one small drum. Driving was great as it almost always this side of the 5mm. Hoping to get out there early tomorrow morning (friday) if my wife doesnt give me her cold and cough.
btw, before sundown, I threw topwaters for a bit - there was something splashing the surface every so often, but no hits for me. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
