You need to manually type your post. For some reason of you copy and paste from another source, the post cuts off at the first comma or apostrophe. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

LOL...
Small baits for big fish. ... I can only assume.. For so long we've heard 'Big Bait, Big Fish' and sometimes that's true but my observation is that it's not always true. A lot of it depends on what the fish are eating (the old adage of 'match the hatch' can be worthwhile). When redfish are eating grass shrimp or any juvenile shrimp its hard to get them to bite anything else and using a tiny fly that is close to that size can have big results.
I've also caught trout in similar moods. I've caught 27 and 28 inch trout on small 2" topwaters when the glass minnows are in good numbers.
I will say though that a Big Trout, while it will take a small shrimp fly pattern, those fish are looking for a mullet, needle gar, or small trout to eat and even when small forage is highly abundant you can catch Big Trout on bigger baits.
Would still love to see your post, I'm sure you caught something big on something small.. just thought I'd get some real info up here for the rest of us anxiously waiting for your post
what about the rest of you guys.. ever catch anything big on something small? |

You can copy & paste, but need to manually delete and retype every comma, apostrophe, exclamation point, and any other strange character. But it will keep you from having to manually type everything. |

I have said many times while fishing that " elephants do love peanuts" you just never know what they are in the mood for so I try it all. |

Yea, there was something in all this that brought back similar memories from a wilder day. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Back in the 80s almost no one went to the land cut. Could have caught 28inch trout on a nickel welded to a hook. . Only kidding around of course. But I certainly miss those days. Where there were 3 trailers at Bird Island Basin on a Saturday. _________________ I am a pirate 200 years too late. |

The 60's at bird island basin was heaven. You had to hike over the dunes to get there - which was awesome, no one could drive there. You had to manage your catch - which was tough - as to how many could you carry back over the dunes to your truck. We all swore to secrecy - and it was called trout hole among the few of us that knew of it. Flounder, trout (my pb 28 inch and 27 inch - July 31, 1970, 3 days before Celia. The go to lure there was a golden johnson sprite, - had to have the teaser tag, we carried extras - and on some days, the floater/diver rapala would take fish off the surface. We walked around the old storage tank - and then entered the water just to the north of the tank, waded very quietly walking through the shrimp filled grass, casting and working our ways across to the little sand bar, right before the channel that separated that body of water - from what we figured was known as bird island. We swam across to it once but it was so full of birds, nests, and babies, that we never went back. That was their place, not ours. I damn near cried when I came back years later after college and numerous adventures - to see it the way it is now. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
