On average how is the fishing on PINS in Mid November assuming normal weather conditions. In my years of coming down I have never tried to come down November through mid March. 2017 hasn't cooperated and because of personal obligations and gulf coast weather I have only been down 2 times in 2017.

Thinkin about making a run down 11/17-11/20 and wanted to see what species are normally hanging out off the beach this time of year.

Hoping for some good fishing and good camping weather!

the weather looks half decent, and fishing during this time of the year can be off the chain...

you never know what you might get into at this point...

I've been on PINS many (100+) times and the most epic day I ever had was mid November.

Timed right, between fronts, can indeed be EPIC on PINS in November. And the total +++ right now is driving is a 12 on the 1-10 scale! Shocked

What bait do yall use when you cant get live mullet ( or do you always buy some from COS or one of the others ) or catch skip jack during these colder months ? I havent had cut whiting get touched in a couple of weeks.

Regarding lures - I had a large red on Saturday, hooked using the blue striped 3/8 oz kastmaster - but what lure is best in the colder months, if any?

Thanks much for the tips.

When they're in the surf I take extras home and freeze it up in saltwater. Also you can usually catch mullet all-year-round along Laguna Shores Road and along the causeway

You freeze Skipjacks like that ? Do you cut them up or leave them in the skin and ziplock bags and - are you talking outdoors saltwater , not water with nacl poured in.

I love the weather and fishing this time of year. If you have the skin to tough it out, some wade fishing or night pier fishing on these semi-cold days are usually productive as long as the wind isn't too high. If you're not a sucker for misery though, you can try to dodge the cold fronts and find nice pockets of warmth, summer-like skies, and good seas.

No, like several said, skipjack get mushy when you freeze them and they will not last. They will even get mushy if you keep them in your refrigerator overnight. I do finger mullet that way

Thanks for clearing that up, thought you might have a secret way of freezing skipjacks - cause there is a night and day difference between a fresh one and non-fresh. And hard heads love the non-fresh ones.

On the skipjack front, cure them first in salt to dry them out, then pack them in sawdust and freeze them. The freezing part is only if you freak out having raw fish lying around--some of the guys I used to go down island with would simply dry them out and pack them in brown paper bags in sawdust for months at a time. They caught the heck out of the reds!
