Swellinfo is predicting wave heights dropping to 1-2 feet on Monday, 10/23, and down to 0-1 foot on Tuesday, 10/24. Don't know yet how long the window would last. I hope to give it a try while it does.

perfect timing! I'm supposed to be out of town next Tuesday and Wednesday for work...
beach is smooth, however there's lots of logs, so it's more like a slalom than a straight shot...and I mean all the way through to the 50's at least...

Thanks! Hoping to take a friend on the test run, but he's got therapy on Tuesday, so will probably go Monday, even though the water clarity won't be as good. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

The tide is my favor on my evening trip - should be hitting the sand before 0600 pm 1800 . _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

When you say "tonight," are you saying after work, or literally after sundown? I've never heard of anyone catching pomps in the dark. In fact, some of the best pomp bites I've experienced were around noon. Many times I would get 4 runs before finishing one sandwich for lunch. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

After work - hopefully be on the sand before 6 pm. Read up on some pomp notes here - sounds like speck rigs , chartreusse in color might be the thing to use - what would you use ? _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

As you might guess, I'm almost strictly a bait fisherman: double-drop leaders with 2/0 small-wire circle hooks tipped with Fishn'Strips and peeled shrimp. I've always tried to cast those baits just to either side of the second bar (the one to which you can seldom wade), which is where wave action exposes pomp food. One of the Fishn'Strip colors resembles that of the chartreuse speck rigs. Obviously, it would be very difficult to cast a speck rig even to the near side of the second bar, but sometimes pomps might feed within range in the far side the first bar.
When I heard my brother in Navarre, Fl, say his neighbor sight-casts off a pier for pomps with some sort of lure, I experimented with plastic lures in the size range and color of pomp food, mole crabs specifically. When bait-stealers are really bad, a little white paddle-tail grub stuck on the circle hooks will attract pomps until something gnaws off the tails. Presumably, the wave action alone isn't enough to make a tail-less grub move like a mole crab. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

I am going to do both - I am going to put up a rig with shrimp/fish bites on it - on a rod holder beside me and then cast the spec rig - hopefully far off - thanks for the tip on the second sand bar, I think thats going to be important. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

| Was at the surf today and was unable to get any Pomps. Although when I was using my cast net in the first gut I was casting up tons of 8 and 9 in Pompano. Water still fairly off-color |

How far down were you ? What were you using ? I am going to put shrimp/fishbites on a bait rig and use chartreusse spec rigs on the light spinning rig - going to go down at least 5 or 6 miles. Had planned on going pass the 20 - but had reds in my sights then. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

Swellinfo blew its previous forecast, considering it's now predicting chest-high waves through Wednesday. It's now saying the surf will be flat briefly on Thursday morning, but I've got a conflict then. Doesn't look like I'll have another chance until mid-November. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

I forgot to mention, I caught 3 small pompanos on fishbites on Saturday afternoon, the biggest being the size of my hand and one was foul hooked. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

SwellInfo just did it again. Now it's predicting window wave heights on Sunday and Monday, 10/29-30. Can I trust those predictions? _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!
