There have been schools of large jacks on the edge of the ICW for a couple of weeks now. They seem to be headed out but there are still a few around. Identities were altered to protect the innocent.

Is that the whole length of the ICW or around JFK? I'd like to get me one!

For the first several miles south of the JFK. They're hard to miss. Good luck!

Also a suspicious lack of birds in the Laguna. Then I see pics of the mayhem taking place on PINS...so that's where all the birds are.

Nice jack - that thing could take a while of chasing in the boat on a trout rod. I think we timed a big one at 40 minutes out of Seadrift.

I don't know about that. The north side of the Causeway has been rolling with birds (pelicans mainly) the past week or so! Don't usually see that much concentrated action in the grassbeds, but they have been tearing it up!

Agreed. And on the south side of the causeway, as well. The amount of bait in the laguna is insane right now. They are menhaden, mullet, anchovies, silversides........The pelicans have been so full by mid morning they just sit all afternoon. We've also seen large flocks of terns with gulls mixed in feeding on the flats.

Used the big motor quite a bit for that fish. Took about 30 minutes and had to dodge a couple of barges.

I'll be sure to stay away from that area no use for Jacks here. Fishing sucked today.

I didn't see any sign of a concentration. Saturday, pure oil and south not much happening birdwise at all. Visual predation as a whole was low from my standpoint. Saw what looked like two flocks of cormorants way overhead heading south. Could have been just an off day - NE wind, shower threatening. Back at the cleaning table no beggars either. Did have a silly coyote run down the KRS trying to keep up with us as we went by. No complaints, just glad to get out and enjoy the day.

With tides as high as they are I fished right up against the shoreline of Laguna Shores Road. Limit of trout in about an hour. All nice fat ones from 18 to 20 in. Would love to have gotten into some of those jacks. Being I'm doing everything catch and release anyway that have been fun for now. No volleyball tomorrow so I just might head out and spend a little more time than an hour I did today. Hoping to see the reds schooling.
